Using ceiling wallpaper in the interior: advantages and disadvantages. How to stick wallpaper on the ceiling Wallpaper ceiling specifications

In drawing up a beautiful and harmonious interior, it is necessary to pay sufficient attention to absolutely all the details. This applies not only to furniture and decorations, but also to decoration. Today in stores you can find a wide variety of different finishing materials, from classic to very original and high-tech. Many consumers nowadays turn to different types of wallpaper to decorate the ceiling.

Kinds

The times when wallpapers were thin and made only of paper are long gone. Modern manufacturers also produce more reliable canvases that not only last a very long time, but also look luxurious. Let's take a closer look at what types of wallpaper exist on the market today.

Paper

Paper wallpapers are one of the most famous. They contain pure cellulose, which indicates their environmental friendliness and safety. To decorate the ceiling, you can choose absolutely any wallpaper made of paper. The range of these finishing materials is so large that you can purchase suitable options for the interior of any style. However, such wallpapers also have their drawbacks.

First of all, it should be noted that paper sheets are not very durable. They tear very easily. Also, they cannot be washed. After contact with water, such finishing materials may permanently lose their attractive appearance. Special paper wallpapers for painting can last a little longer.

non-woven

The second most popular today are non-woven fabrics. In fact, these are the same paper options, but they differ in a denser and more reliable base, which contains special woven fibers. Thanks to this structure, these wallpapers are dense, durable and wear-resistant.

It is worth noting that non-woven fabrics excellent air permeability. That is why mold or fungus never appears on these "breathable" materials. Non-woven wallpaper is often chosen for finishing the ceiling in a home, as they last a long time and look attractive.

Vinyl

Such types of wallpaper are distinguished by the fact that they have a special coating of foamed vinyl. It is applied to a paper base or non-woven base. Of course, the latter are considered more durable. Many consumers opt for vinyl wallpaper, as they can be washed. Due to this quality, such canvases can be glued in almost any room, whether it be an entrance hall, living room, kitchen or bedroom. Moreover, it is worth noting the fact that such materials are dense, so with their help it will be possible to hide some defects on the surface of the ceiling (e.g. cracks or small irregularities).

Vinyl wallpapers boast durability. They look neat and aesthetically pleasing, and retain their beautiful appearance for a long time without fading or deforming.

Acrylic

Suitable for finishing the ceiling and modern acrylic wallpaper. They are in many ways similar to vinyl options, but they have a special acrylic coating that plays the role of the top layer. As a rule, these canvases are quite thin. They pass air well, protecting the base from the appearance of fungus and mold. dangerous to human health.

fiberglass

These types of wallpaper appeared on the market of finishing materials relatively recently. They are designed for painting, so using them, you can change the color scheme of the interior at your discretion. The main advantage of fiberglass sheets is that they last a very long time and are highly durable. Such characteristics are very important when it comes to finishing the ceiling in a room, since frequent re-gluing of such an area will take a lot of time and effort.

As for the disadvantages of fiberglass wallpaper, here it is worth paying attention only to the fact that they cannot boast of a large assortment of colors. As a rule, in stores there are simple monochromatic options for calm and neutral colors, so it will not be so easy to find truly unique options.

fabric

Textile fabrics have a rich appearance and serve for more than one year. However, they should not be glued in all rooms. The main disadvantage that such materials have is that they They get dirty very easily and quickly absorb odors. It is because of this that they should not be used in finishing the ceiling in the kitchen, loggia / balcony or hallway. Under such conditions, woven fabrics will quickly lose their visual appeal and will have to be re-glued.

metal

These finishing materials also appeared on the market quite recently, but in a short time of their existence they managed to win the love of consumers thanks to their excellent design. First of all, it is worth noting the interesting and eye-catching glare that appears on the surface of these wallpapers when the sun hits them. On the ceiling, these finishing materials look especially attractive.

With their help you can visually expand the space and make it brighter. The decorative layer of such canvases consists of the thinnest aluminum foil. This component makes metal wallpaper as durable and wear-resistant as possible. It is not so easy to damage them, especially if they are located on the ceiling.

Such wallpapers are not afraid of direct sunlight. Under such conditions, they do not lose their brightness, brilliance and shape. They can be easily washed, as metal coatings are not at all afraid of dampness and moisture. In addition, this finish has excellent soundproofing characteristics.

Liquid

Liquid wallpapers are rightfully recognized as the most interesting and unusual. They combine all the best features of standard roll options. Externally, liquid canvases are difficult to distinguish from ordinary plaster. However, their composition is very different from traditional finishing materials. In the production of these products sand is not used, and the main component is cellulose. These wallpapers will have an attractive appearance with the help of special decorative fibers, sparkles and safe natural dyes.

For application to the ceiling or walls, liquid wallpaper must be diluted with water. The main advantages of liquid canvases are that they do not have joints, form a beautiful and slightly embossed surface texture, mask irregularities and defects in the base and serve for at least 6 years.

Wall mural

Such canvases were popular in the distant past. However, modern photo wallpapers are distinguished by a more “natural” and high-quality image that can radically change the style and direction of the interior. To finish the ceiling, it is recommended to turn to photo wallpapers depicting a blue sky with air clouds, a night sky with shining stars and other similar coatings.

Advantages and disadvantages

Currently, many owners are turning to decorating the ceiling with beautiful wallpaper. This popularity is due a number of advantages regarding such an attractive finish:

  • this design of the ceiling in the room can not be called expensive. You can transform the environment without spending sky-high amounts;
  • It is worth noting a chic assortment of modern wallpapers. This suggests that you can choose the ideal options for absolutely any ensemble, whether it be strict classics or artsy baroque;
  • various canvases on the ceiling look great in the overall combination, which allows users to create a truly unique and beautiful ensemble;
  • for applying wallpaper to the surface of the ceiling, you do not need to purchase expensive specialized equipment;

  • it is also not necessary to have professional skills in such work, so you will be able to paste over the ceiling yourself without turning to professionals and without spending extra money;
  • the ceiling base does not have to be prepared for a long time and diligently for wallpapering. Moreover, some finishing materials are able to hide many base defects;
  • with the help of well-chosen canvases, you can visually raise the ceiling and even expand the room. To do this, it is recommended to choose lighter options, devoid of a large number of small prints and patterns.

Despite such an impressive list of advantages, the ceiling wallpaper finish has its drawbacks. These include:

  • short service life. Of course, this parameter largely depends on the materials from which the canvases are made. Coatings from domestic firms, as a rule, need to be changed every 3-5 years (depending on the conditions in which they are located). Imported products are more durable and reliable. The lion's share of foreign companies offers buyers a choice of high-quality dense for painting. After some time, they can simply be repainted, thus updating and refreshing the interior;
  • hard work. Sticking wallpaper on the ceiling is much more difficult than on the wall. These tasks are not easy to handle alone. It's better to ask someone for help;
  • do not wallpaper the ceiling in a room with high humidity. Despite the fact that today many types of finishing materials are not afraid of water, nevertheless, in conditions of constant dampness and moisture, they can peel off from the base and lose their attractiveness.

Actual decor

Carrying out repairs to the home, each owner wants to bring to it everything only the most stylish and attractive. To do this, you need to pay attention not only to the quality and shade of the ceiling wallpaper, but also to their decorative components. One of the most original and memorable are photo wallpapers. As a decor, they may contain images of space and natural landscapes, as well as marine compositions. Such specimens are often glued in the bedroom or living room.

Textured wallpapers look attractive, but unobtrusive in many interiors. Most often they have neutral and calm colors. In addition, they perfectly hide small irregularities in the bases, which makes them so popular. Also, the ceiling in the room can be pasted over with glitter canvases. However, there should not be too many of these elements so as not to form an overly colorful ensemble.

The trend of recent years are canvases that imitate wood, stone or brick. These products look organic not only in modern, but also in historical, brutal and even artsy interiors. The interior will look original and crumpled wallpaper. On such coatings there are not too large folds, as if they were crumpled in the hands before pasting.

If you want to bring an interesting zest to the interior of the bedroom, then you should look for trendy ceiling wallpapers with phosphor elements that glow in the dark. Today, in the production of such materials, only safe materials are used that do not harm the health of the household, so you can glue them even in the children's room.

Fashionable luminous individuals are of three types:

  • silvery. As part of such canvases, there are special silvery threads that act as light conductors. Today in stores you can find options in which such components can be remotely adjusted;
  • fluorescent. The distinctive quality of this luminous wallpaper is its unique pattern. As a rule, it has an interesting three-dimensional format, which makes the images on the canvases "alive";
  • luminomorphic. These wallpapers are ideal for decorating a child's room. They differ in slightly careless drawings.

Today, special wallpapers with a glossy surface are very popular. They can be used in both small and spacious rooms. Thanks to the chic mirror surface, the room can seem more voluminous and thoughtful. You can use glossy coatings in almost any interior, whether it be a bedroom or a living room.

These canvases are:

  • plain;
  • with drawing.

Colors

Today in stores you can find a lot of ceiling wallpaper in a variety of colors. Consider what color options are available today are among the most popular:

  • wallpaper painted in universal and classic white. They can be glued both in a bright or dark, and in a snow-white room with rich decor elements to dilute excessive whiteness;
  • green canvases. This soothing color can be matched to interiors in classic or more lively tones. For example, it can be an ensemble of pale yellow, beige, blue or sandy shades;
  • dark wallpaper is not recommended to be glued to the ceiling in a room with the same dark walls. Dark gray, dark blue or black canvases should be selected for lighter rooms. The created contrast will look very stylish and modern;
  • in modern interiors, mirror or metal coatings will look spectacular and organic.

On the surface of beautiful and high-quality ceiling wallpaper The following patterns and prints may be present:

  • starry sky;
  • compositions with an angel (or several angels) and clouds;
  • imitation tiles;
  • space compositions with stars and planets;
  • ornate and graceful patterns in contrasting tones;
  • images of cartoon characters, planes and cars (for children's rooms);
  • floral motifs.

How to choose?

The choice of wallpaper for finishing the ceiling should be taken as seriously as the choice of wall materials. In search of suitable canvases, it is worth adhering to some simple tips from designers so as not to make a mistake with the choice:

  • it is better to give preference to more dense and reliable products. This finish will last much longer and retain an attractive appearance for a long time;
  • if there are irregularities or other similar defects on the ceiling, then it is better to glue embossed canvases on it, which will easily hide many of the flaws in the base;
  • don't forget about color combinations. For example, if the room has a light floor and dark walls, then the ceiling can be pasted over with options for neutral or light colors. Of course, much in this case depends on the color of the furniture;
  • for rooms with low ceilings, it is not recommended to buy too dark canvases. Visually, they can create the illusion of a small room with a low and oppressive ceiling.

Being in such an environment will not be very comfortable;

  • if you prefer bright and rich canvases, then it is better to glue them in the hall and living room of the corresponding style. In the bedroom (both for adults and for children), designers recommend gluing wallpapers in neutral, pastel and soothing colors. They will not cause irritation and interfere with fast falling asleep;
  • experts do not recommend buying too dense and heavy wallpaper for finishing the ceiling (everything should be in moderation). Such canvases are more durable, but over time they can peel off from the base under their own weight;
  • you should not buy wallpaper for the ceiling if the room has a high level of humidity. Under such conditions, no canvas will last too long;
  • contact for the purchase of ceiling wallpaper only from well-known manufacturers with a good reputation. Otherwise, there is a big risk of running into low-quality canvases that can move away from the base after a short time and spoil the whole image of the interior.

Beautiful examples and options

The ceiling, pasted over with well-chosen wallpaper, can transform the interior and make it truly unique. For example, snow-white canvases with geometric dark brown ornaments will look amazing in a bright room with furniture painted in black and yellow. The ensemble will turn out to be contrasting, but not annoying.

A plain white ceiling will look great in a bedroom with gray non-woven fabrics decorated with silver prints on the walls. In such an interesting environment, it is worth placing a double bed with a high upholstered headboard (with furniture carnations) and slightly careless wooden bedside tables in a gray-brown hue.

If you prefer original and bright ideas, you can turn to light ceiling wallpaper with contrasting red prints. Paste them in a room with white walls and an equally light-colored screed. In such an environment, red curtains, red and white chairs with dark wooden legs, dark wrought iron chandeliers and decorative scarlet bows will look great.

Spectacular murals depicting blue skies and white clouds can be pasted in a room with a multi-level rounded ceiling and peach-colored walls. Dilute delicate colors with brick or stonework on one of the walls, a glossy screed and a chic pendant chandelier with candles.

A chic light gray wallpaper with a large ash purple print will look stunning in a bedroom with white walls and dark brown floors. Put in this room a bed with a high wooden headboard and cabinets attached to it, glass chairs on a metal frame, a tempered glass coffee table (between the chairs) and complete the interior with thick curtains of a dull burgundy shade.

Currently, different types of ceilings are in demand, but some owners prefer a ceiling with pasted wallpaper. On its surface with the help of wallpaper it is possible to depict a lot. For example, the ceiling is now popular, in the form of a blue or starry sky. Look at the photo of wallpaper on the ceiling to choose the best option.

Cellulose fiber ceiling wallpaper

The wallpaper of this material consists of seventy percent natural elements, so they are environmentally friendly and completely safe. Also, another advantage of these wallpapers is that they are durable and will be able to smooth out small flaws in the ceiling, such as cracks or chips.

Advantages:

  • It is convenient to work with non-woven wallpaper, they do not lose their shape and do not get wet when applied.
  • The adhesive must be applied to the edges of the wallpaper, which makes it possible to adjust the pattern, pattern and joints of the canvases to the maximum.
  • Wallpaper from this material is suitable for the ceiling of any material and composition.
  • The wallpapers are safe and can be used even in the children's room without worrying about the children's health.

Sticking fleisin wallpaper

First of all, you need to properly prepare the ceiling. It is necessary to remove the old wallpaper and wash all the whitewash. All this is done cleanly so that when pasting the ceiling with wallpaper, stains and yellow spots do not appear on them.

The ceiling is leveled to the maximum so that there are no waves and cracks on it, this can be done with a primer and a spatula.

The wallpaper must be distributed and cut into canvases, of such a size that it is convenient to work with them. It is advisable to choose an adhesive that is special for this type of wallpaper; this is easy to do at any hardware store.

Canvases need to be glued back to back, leaving no gaps or gaps. The width of the wallpaper for the ceiling is recommended one and a half meters, but first of all, it depends on the area of the ceiling space.

Painting

If the wallpaper needs to be painted, then it is recommended to do this some time after pasting so that they dry out. Any paint can be used and staining can also be done more than once.

When painting the floor, it is better to cover it with oilcloth or unnecessary newspapers so as not to spoil the flooring. It is better to work with a roller, and where it is impossible to use a brush.

Ceiling color

It so happened that light shades of the gamut of colors are used for the ceiling. If you want a bright wallpaper color for the ceiling, then it will be muted. For zoning space, it is recommended to use different shades of the same color.

Vinyl ceiling wallpaper

The cost of vinyl wallpaper depends on the thickness of the pvc and the base. There are also copies that are produced with further staining.

Vinyl wallpapers are bought more often than paper wallpapers due to their positive aspects:

  • Wear resistance and long service life.
  • Moisture resistance.
  • Easy to apply on ceiling surface.
  • Huge selection and different prices.

The only drawback is poor air permeability. And of course, the quality of work depends on how to glue the wallpaper on the ceiling.

Wallpaper of this type is divided into several groups:

  • Flat vinyl with a smooth finish and a sheen.
  • Vinyl with texture allows you to make wallpaper under the guise of building materials.
  • Heavy vinyl can imitate stone, it is very thick.
  • Vinyl with multiple layers. These wallpapers look like silk and are very expensive.

Glass fiber

This is a material that is rarely seen on the ceiling of an apartment. A special base is made of fiberglass, on which various patterns are applied. The material is safe and does not contain harmful mixtures.

Material advantages

  • Wear resistance and durability. These wallpapers will last up to thirty years.
  • They do not burn, when heated, they do not emit harmful elements.
  • Helps to maintain a pleasant indoor climate.
  • Do not accumulate dust and wash well.
  • You can change the color of the wallpaper up to twenty times.
  • In the interior of the room, glass wallpapers are used with relief. This is another advantage, because they are suitable for any design.

Glass fiber looks very harmonious and expensive, you can see this by looking at the photo of the ceiling wallpaper in the interior.

The liquid wallpaper

Sometimes liquid wallpaper is called decorative plaster. Difference from other types of wallpaper:

  • These wallpapers will be easily applied on surfaces with a large number of angles.
  • Liquid wallpaper adheres firmly to any surface.
  • Dust does not accumulate, wet cleaning is not needed for them.
  • Wallpapers are safe and consist of eco-friendly materials.
  • Liquid wallpaper does not let in noise and heat.

The disadvantage is that liquid wallpaper cannot be used in the kitchen or bathroom.

Applying liquid wallpaper

First you need to prepare the surface of the ceiling, for this the old coating is removed and the defects are leveled with putty. But there is one caveat, when applying liquid wallpaper, moisture will get on the ceiling, and putty does not tolerate it. To do this, first on top of the putty, the ceiling must be painted with water-based paint.

For the preparation of wallpaper, it is recommended to use a special mixer, thanks to which the mass will turn out to be homogeneous. The mixture is added to warm water in small portions and mixed. After leaving the resulting consistency for half an hour and begin to apply to the surface of the ceiling with a spatula. It takes about twelve hours for the wallpaper to dry - it depends on the thickness.

Photo wallpaper on the ceiling

If you chose ceiling wallpaper for finishing the ceiling, then let's first find out their advantages and disadvantages, as well as their characteristics, types, colors. First, compared to whitewashing, ceiling wallpapering is a fairly clean job. Secondly, profitable. For example, Russian ceiling wallpapers are inexpensive - from 28 to 70 rubles per roll. Firms charge an average of 55 rubles/sq.m. for wallpapering, and 20 rubles/sq.m. for removing old ones.

Ceiling wallpapers retain their original beauty and whiteness for three to five years (if we are talking about domestic ones).

Now for the disadvantages. Gluing wallpaper on the ceiling is much more difficult than on the walls ( wall papering), so for this you need a little skill and the help of friends or relatives.

And we must not forget that for the ceiling you need to use ceiling wallpaper.

Problem of choice

German wallpaper for painting is in no way inferior to domestic ceiling wallpaper.
Just don't paint them.

Special ceiling wallpapers are made only in Russia.

True, it is not yet clear - why? Either we alone glue wallpaper on the ceiling, or the bourgeois have some kind of trick.

But the fact remains. The largest manufacturers of wallpaper for the ceiling are the Moscow Wallpaper Factory and OAO Mosstroyplastmass (Mytishchi).

They are also produced in other cities - in Tula, Rostov-on-Don ... The color is only white, but the texture is different - about 200 options. One roll contains 10 meters of wallpaper 53 cm wide.

How are they different from the rest? Let's start with the fact that they are denser than wall-mounted ones: two layers of thick paper are glued together and embossed. By the way, on the labels it says: “Embossed wallpaper.

Designed for pasting walls and ceilings of residential and public buildings. Due to their thickness and relief, they hide all the irregularities of the ceiling and do not require a perfectly prepared surface.

But such wallpapers on the ceiling will “live” for only five years. And that's it. Then you have to re-glue. Because dust will settle on them during this time, cigarette smoke and so on will be absorbed. Moreover, this situation cannot be corrected in any way: Russian ceiling wallpapers are not intended to be washed and painted.

Imported paintable wallpapers are sold in rolls of different lengths and widths and have a wide choice of textures.

And what to do? There are two options here. Well, firstly, you can still glue it. Because for five whole years you will not have any problems with the ceiling (if the upper neighbors do not flood, of course).

And secondly, you can choose imported ones.

But here, too, there is a but. Foreigners do not produce special wallpaper for the ceiling! But on the other hand, they have one wonderful thing called "paintable wallpaper." So, they may well pass for the ceiling.

At least in the West, they glue them wonderfully on the ceiling.

We sell wallpaper from German companies AS Creation, Erismann, Erfurt in our stores. Here, take them.

For example, the Erfurt company advises using the Raufaser series as ceiling wallpapers.

They are made from recycled paper filled with sawdust. Outwardly, they are very similar to domestic ones. Also two-layer, dense, have a porous structure.

But they differ from ours in that these wallpapers can be painted. They are painted with water-based paint. And you can easily do this more than ten times.

I wanted - I made a blue ceiling, I wanted - peach or red, for example. And so ten times, paint at least every year, until you get bored.

If you don’t feel like messing around with paint, you can buy wallpaper from the Raufazer Color series. They are exactly the same as Raufaser, but already painted in different colors - from light yellow and pink to pale blue.

However, they can also be repainted. The beauty!
Imported wallpaper for painting are not only paper-based, but also non-woven (non-woven is a dense cloth that is used in sewing). Non-woven wallpaper also suitable for the ceiling. And gluing them is even easier than paper ones, because you need to spread the glue not on the wallpaper, but on the ceiling.

The only downside is the price. You will have to pay from 180 to 440 rubles per roll, depending on the width and length of the roll (see table). But, on the other hand, it is better to spend money once, but then for fifteen years you can not be afraid to get it dirty. Repainted and everything. You think for now, and in the meantime we will tell you how to prepare the ceiling for work.

Surface preparation

They are also good because they greatly simplify the process.

To prepare the ceiling, you do not need to wash off the paint or remove the whitewash. True, if your ceiling looks like a camel's back, you still can't do without putty. Still need to find out how horizontal it is? This is done with the simplest plumb line, measuring the distance from floor to ceiling at the corners of the room. If it turns out that there is still a slope, again you need putty, if the difference between the plates is large, then the ceiling is desirable level with drywall. And if the slope is small, there are no problems at all.

It is not necessary, but it is desirable to treat the ceiling with an acrylic primer. Wallpaper adheres much better to a primed surface than to an untreated one. The primer, which looks like milk, does not contain solvents, dries quickly, the surface "breathes" and does not create the so-called greenhouse effect.

It is applied simply with a brush, without any additional tricks. I advise you to use the primers of the German firms Henkel and Pufas or the Russian Eurolux and Monolith. A five-liter bottle is enough for 50 sq.m. After a few hours, wallpaper can be glued to the ceiling.

Ceiling wallpaper - choosing the best design options and do-it-yourself gluing technique (112 photos)

How to paste them correctly?

There are some subtleties here. Imported ones do not need to be impregnated with glue. Either they smear the ceiling with glue - and sculpt the wallpaper, or the canvases already smeared with glue are quickly glued to the ceiling. If bubbles form, they are smoothed out very carefully. And in no case not with a rag, but with a rubber roller, from the middle to the edges.

With domestic wallpaper, the situation is different.

Before gluing, they must be impregnated with glue. Just be careful. The label says that the wallpaper "should be soaked for 10 - 15 minutes." But I was warned: 10 minutes is the limit. Otherwise, the embossing will disperse, the wallpaper may tear, and there will be nothing to glue.

Yes! Another important detail. In no case do not use your favorite Soviet method - wallpapering on newspapers. Firstly, now, as in all civilized countries, they take a primer as a basis.

And secondly, in a couple of years, yellow newspaper spots will definitely appear on the wallpaper.

Now about what kind of glue is needed.

Experts advise using a special wallpaper glue or Moment-Extra glue from Henkel.

Ripping off old wallpaper from the ceiling is as easy as shelling pears. You need to pick up the wallpaper from the edge and pull it slightly - they will fall behind by themselves.

True, this will only happen if the correct adhesive has been selected. The glue is washed off with warm water and soda. Do not worry about the primer - it is waterproof, nothing will happen to it.

If you accidentally stained the ceiling. With imported wallpaper it is easier: the stain can be repainted, the dent over time, according to the instructions, “self-destructs”. As for domestic wallpapers, there is nothing to be done: you will have to roll up your sleeves and re-glue a couple of canvases. But, I emphasize, this is easily and simply solved if these are special ceiling wallpapers, and not the first ones that come to hand.

Otherwise, it will be very difficult to tear them off the ceiling later. Discuss the article on the forum

Glossy wallpaper for the ceiling: choice

It is difficult to understand what it is: glued glossy self-adhesive gypsum ceiling or PVC film stretch

Despite the wide range of roller coatings that manufacturers offer to cope with the surfaces in the house, the backdrop for a glossy ceiling is on a special account with designers.

In the end, not only decorate the ceiling surface, but also help solve the problems associated with the visualization of space.

A good but more expensive alternative is PVC foil stretch varnish. Which one is better for functionality and aesthetics?

In this issue, we will try to understand this article.

Varieties of glossy coatings

Ceiling wallpapers are often: textured; relief; shallow or deep relief; for painting or only white, which cannot be painted.

They are mainly used for bonding flat ceiling or drywall.

Although there are special ceiling wallpapers, all wall options are suitable for this. At the same time, due to the large assortment, you can always choose what fits perfectly into the interior.

Diversity interior with colored background on the ceiling

glossy wallpaper

A shiny background gives a completely different role and does not contribute to this - due to its reflective surface, it visually expands the space, as a result of which a room with a lower ceiling is taller.

  • On the entire surface of the ceiling, they are not glued - well, except that they do it in a very small room.

    Most often, glossy wallpapers are used in the exhibition of suspended ceilings.

  • When creating a background, a reflective surface is obtained by chemical action (braking). They may be monophonic or contain drawings.
  • On paper covered with a layer of vinyl, use inhibitors - these substances prevent the formation of foam.

    Then the background gets into a special oven. Stay tuned for a video of who is interested in the process.

  • If there is a background image, inhibitors can only be used for it.

    Therefore, only areas where this substance does not expand and increase. Embossed relief with a shiny surface.

  • If the inhibitor applies to the entire surface of the mesh, it becomes glossy. Of all these shades, it depends on the price of the product.
  • Today's popular photo wallpapers are obtained in this way.

    For the base only - paper with a photographic image printed on it. Behind the ceilings, the possibilities of the theme "clouds", "starry sky", "treetops" are popular - all this inspires the idea of height.

These wallpapers are very durable and UV resistant. They can be used not only for the design of ceilings, but also for walls. Their characteristics are ideal for wet areas: kitchens, bathrooms and balconies.

Self-adhesive film

The film can also be seen as a kind of brilliant backdrop.

How to lay the background on the ceiling - Complete the procedure in the article with instructions

The only difference is how they stick together on the surface. There are also some differences in the design of the front surface.

There are many more possibilities in this self-adhesive film.

After all, you can paste it anywhere: on tiles, on furniture, on any metal object - for example: a refrigerator or a front door.

How to use in ceiling decor

Since the material already has an adhesive backing, it is possible to decorate various types of ceiling surfaces, including plastic, with such a film.

There are also small stickers for this.

  • Movies, as well as wallpapers, can be monophonic or patterned. Suspended ceiling design is often used because sometimes the ceiling configuration is quite complex and easier to stick on the film.
  • For example, to cover the petals of a solid clay cardboard daisy with a normal background, you have to suffer a lot and turn your ends.

    Self-adhesive film, the process is very simple and there is no need to dilute the adhesive.

  • It is even easier to stick the glue with an adhesive layer on the back side of the bottom or a geometrically correct niche. This work will not be difficult to do with your own hands, as well as without the help of assistants.

In general, plasterboard ceilings are leading in the use of glossy films.

After all, the GKL surface needs to be completed. Under the picture, he needs whales grinding. Self-adhesive film solves all problems at the same time, and in addition to surface treatment, it does not require anything.

It offers self-adhesive works

The label technology is quite simple, but there are some shades. So a little instruction won't hurt.

  • Suppose you will be gluing the film to a plywood ceiling. Then you need to remove the bumps and roughness and open it with acrylic powder.
  • If you are gluing a glass or metal surface, it must be degreased.

    In general, every surface should be smooth and smooth.

There is a mark on the back for easy cutting.

  • Cutting film on plates or trimmings is very convenient. There is a tiny grid on the back that makes it easy to measure, make a pencil mark and cut.
  • Do not remove the backing with a piece of film.

    First, a small area is separated, literally from three to four centimeters, and used in the right place.

  • Then, carefully, avoiding bubbles, flatten and press the film onto the surface with a dry cloth.

Then gradually pull out the protective paper pad.

Self-adhesive film has one invaluable quality - it can be removed twice from the substrate twice per second. This is what happens if something goes wrong.

Which is better: stretch film or self-adhesive material

If you take a close look at the photographs presented in this article, it becomes clear that you can make the same design options with stretch films and self-adhesive films.

At the same time, it is almost impossible to know what is.

Note. The self-adhesive advantages are that you can create a separate ceiling plan for quite modest money (the most expensive mirror, cost 600r / m.p.). And if you need to polish a small part of the ceiling, this is the most convenient option. In any case, no special equipment is required here, as with a ceiling ceiling.

However, in order to deal with large areas, it is better not to use glossy wallpaper for the ceiling, but to stretch the film.

The width of the canvas is up to 5 m, and self-adhesive - only 45 cm.

Accordingly, we get more seams that are unlikely to decorate the decorated surface.

Therefore, it is better to decide what is best with only the ceiling configuration and version of its design.

Contemporary ceiling design

The design of ceilings with the advent of new finishing materials has become an interesting and significant transformation of living spaces.

It is no wonder that the most daring and creative decorators are the main focus of their unusual design solutions. In this case, the classics of decades of tried-and-tested finishes no longer disappear - they can best fit into the existing situation.

Ceilings have been pasted over with wallpaper for a long time, and if ordinary wall wallpapers were previously used for this purpose, now ceiling wallpapers have appeared on sale, which are intended only for finishing ceilings.

Finishing the ceiling is an integral part of the repair, which affects the final result of the work done. Therefore, you need to responsibly choose the type of wallpaper for the ceiling, and take into account all the pros and cons.

Today the market offers a huge range of modern ceiling finishes. At the moment, ceiling wallpapers are very popular, because they create a unique interior for a small amount of money. Read about here.

Ceiling wallpapers are paper wallpapers, but made of two layers of paper, so they are much denser and almost always embossed. On the label of such wallpaper it is written that it is “embossed wallpaper”. Their relief and thickness make it possible to hide some irregularities on the ceiling when glued.

Domestic ceiling wallpapers have a relatively low price, and working with them is not very expensive. In addition, when working with a sticker of such wallpaper, dirt is much less than when whitewashing.

Special ceiling wallpapers are produced only in Russia. There is no such concept abroad. Existing there, it is quite possible to use instead of our ceiling wallpaper.

The durability of domestic ceiling wallpapers is from three to five years, then they must be re-glued, because they can neither be washed nor painted. Wallpaper imported "for painting" last much longer - up to fifteen years, and they can be painted more than once. But their cost is much higher.

Water-dispersion paint is used for painting imported wallpapers. On sale there are already painted wallpapers, which in the future, if necessary, can also be painted.

The basis of imported wallpaper "for painting" is both on paper and fiseline basis. Both of them can be easily used for high-quality pasting of the ceiling. Moreover, it is much easier to glue wallpaper on a fiselin basis, because the glue will need to be applied not to the wallpaper, but to the ceiling.

Varieties of wallpaper for the ceiling

In order to please many customers, manufacturers create a wide selection of finishing materials.

There are main types of ceiling wallpaper, these include:

  • Vinyl. These wallpapers consist of two layers: the base (paper or interlining), and the top layer (polyvinyl chloride). They are textured and smooth, and also have a huge selection of colors. Vinyl wallpapers are considered moisture resistant, thanks to the top layer. These ceiling wallpapers are classified into subspecies: inhibited; without picture; silkscreen; imitation of heavy natural materials.
  • Non-woven. They are made from cellulose fibers, which are environmentally friendly. Non-woven wallpapers are durable, resistant to moisture, and also have a varied selection of colors. These wallpapers are very expensive, but their inherent plus is durability.
  • Liquid. They consist of the following components: textile fibers; carboxymethylcellulose; cellulose. Vapor permeability, noise insulation, elasticity, antistatic - these are the main advantages of liquid wallpaper. Moisture resistance is their main disadvantage. Therefore, it is not recommended to use in rooms where there is a high level of moisture.
  • Glass fiber. These wallpapers are made from glass threads, which are woven in different densities and thicknesses. They are impregnated with a solution of starch. Glass wallpapers are considered environmentally friendly, durable, and also resistant to moisture and fire. Despite the many advantages, many do not use this type because of the huge cost.

Pros and cons of wallpaper for the ceiling

Each building material has its own advantages and disadvantages. Ceiling wallpaper is no exception.

Wallpaper for the ceiling consists of the following advantages:

  • no special qualification skills are required for repairs;
  • minimum cost;
  • dense structure;
  • ceiling height is not reduced;
  • sound isolation;
  • ease of dismantling.

The disadvantages of ceiling wallpaper include:

  • does not last long;
  • instability to moisture of some species;
  • many coatings are not allowed to be painted or washed;
  • absorption of odors;
  • accumulation of dust.

Ceiling wallpaper is an affordable and easy way to make a room more beautiful and presentable. Therefore, they are still popular and are considered in demand.

Before sticking ceiling wallpaper, no special preparation of the ceiling surface is required at all, that is, there is no need to wash off whitewash or old paint from it. Although, if the ceiling is very uneven, then you will have to putty it.

With a significant difference in the ceiling tiles, the ceiling is pre-leveled with plasterboard, after which wallpaper is glued onto it. Priming the surface under the wallpaper sticker is desirable, but, of course, not required. In case of application, the primer is usually applied with a simple brush.

As a rule, the primer does not contain solvents and similar substances in its composition, it dries very quickly, and due to the fact that the surface formed by it breathes, there is no greenhouse effect. After waiting a few hours (4-7) after priming, you can start gluing.

Once upon a time, wallpaper was pasted on newspapers instead of a primer. But this cannot be done, because in one or two years yellow spots from the newspapers that have come through will appear on the white ceiling. Using a primer as a base eliminates such problems.

Sticker ceiling wallpaper is far from an easy process, with some subtleties. If imported wallpaper is used for the ceiling, then the wallpaper itself does not need to be coated with glue. Glue is applied to the ceiling, to which the canvases are then applied. To avoid the formation of bubbles, the wallpaper is rolled from the middle with a specially designed rubber roller.

If domestic wallpaper is used for the ceiling, the glue is applied to the canvases themselves. They should lie down in order to be saturated with glue, but no more than 10 minutes. Longer impregnation will cause embossing failure, which may lead to damage.

The choice of the applied wallpaper glue matters. With the right choice of glue, in the case of replacing the wallpaper, it will be enough to slightly pick up their very edge and pull on it, and they will easily move away from the ceiling surface. The remains of the old glue are washed off with clean warm water with the addition of soda to it.

To paste over the ceiling with wallpaper, it will take a lot of strength and patience. However, if you prepare in advance for this time-consuming process, the result will justify the effort and money expended.

This process begins with the preliminary preparation of the ceiling and the choice of wallpaper. For ceilings, there are special wallpapers that are much lighter than wallpaper for walls. It is better to choose a material without a pattern so that there are no problems with the joint, but this is a matter of taste and personal preference. If the wallpaper requires the selection of a joint, it is better to have a roll in reserve.

Before proceeding with gluing, it is necessary to prepare in advance the tools that will help in this process. This will save time in the future and make the work more efficient. Do not do when pasting ceilings without a ladder. A container for glue and a construction mixer for mixing it should also be prepared in advance.

Next, you will need a tape measure, a large stationery paper cutter, a pencil and masking tape. To apply glue, it is better to choose a roller with a medium pile on a long handle, and in order for the glue to lie evenly on the roller, you need a bath. In addition to the roller, you need to stock up on wide and narrow brushes and rags or a dry roller for leveling the wallpaper.

To simplify the work, you need to mark up with a pencil. The lines on the ceiling should be equal to the width of the wallpaper. Since the pencil line can be hard to see, masking tape is stuck on it - it will become a more accurate guide, and will not shine through.

Now you can cut the wallpaper, and leave a few centimeters of stock on each side. If you need to join the drawing, cut off only the first sheet, and select each subsequent one directly to the previous one.

We proceed directly to pasting. Thoroughly coat the first sheet with glue, paying attention to the edges and corners. For convenience, fold the smeared sheet with an accordion, avoiding glue on the front side.

The wallpaper sticker is carried out in the direction of the light emanating from the window. Glue is applied evenly, starting from the middle of the strip, gradually filling the entire surface of the wrong side with it.

The strip smeared with glue is folded into an accordion with folds about 30 cm wide, while the layers of glue will come into contact with each other. In this form, the canvas is left to impregnate it with glue. Do the same with 3-4 bands. During gluing, the smeared strips are smoothed out with a special roller from the middle of the strip to its edge.

To prevent damage to the canvas, you need to work slowly. Laying strips when gluing is carried out butt-to-butt. In the transition from the ceiling to the wall, the strip is glued so that it goes a little on the wall. The wallpaper is gently and tightly pressed and leveled.

After the glue has set, the excess wallpaper is cut off at the junction of the ceiling and wall. In the place of the ceiling where the chandelier will be located, a cross-shaped incision should be made on the wallpaper to protect it from wrinkles.

Apply the sheet from the corner exactly along the masking tape. Carefully move along the wall, using a plastic spatula or a wide rubber roller to smooth.

Each next sheet is glued in the same way, tightly applying to the previous one. It is better to tighten the seam with your hands and roll it with a roller. If necessary, coat the dried edges with glue - a brush will come in handy for this. If wrinkles or bubbles form under the wallpaper, you will have to carefully tear off the badly lying sheet and start all over again.

If you do not plan to decorate the joints of the ceiling and walls, then you need to be extremely careful. A spatula is rigidly applied to the corner and a paper knife is passed exactly along it. If it is supposed to fasten skirting boards, then you can simply cut off the excess with a knife.

The technology of sticking good ceiling wallpaper is no different from sticking wall wallpaper. Works, in order to avoid drafts, are carried out with closed windows.

To give an impeccable look to the ceiling in the apartment, you can use various methods of finishing it. It can be whitewash, glued, suspended, stretch ceilings or ceiling wallpaper stickers. All types of finishes have their advantages and disadvantages.
