How does a spray water spray with a water curtain work? How to properly ventilate the spray booth Do-it-yourself water curtain

How does a spray water spray with a water curtain work?

The task of any spray booth is to ensure that the air in the spray zone is cleaned from spray mist and solvent vapors.

Water spray booths have several levels of air purification from paint.

Level 1- frontal water curtain - this visible part of the spray booth with a water curtain. A stream of water flows down it in a continuous and continuous stream. It must be uniform and completely cover the entire front area (surface) of the curtain.

Level 2 -internal air purification - perhaps here the main filtration and purification of air from paint waste is carried out. Depending on the design of the spray booth and the manufacturer, there are various systems for internal air purification.

Level 3 - dry filtration - performs final air cleaning from the remaining paint particles and protects the fan blades from paint sticking. Depending on the manufacturer, dry filtration is carried out in Italian spray booths with a water curtain in Russian spray booths - in others, such as China, there is no filtration at all.

Below are the structure diagrams of Italian and Russian spray booths:

1) Scheme of water spray booth ZINCOVELO ZA Italy
2) Video of the work of the spray booth Italy

3) Scheme of a water spray booth made in Russia

4) Video of the operation of the painting chamber Russia (built into a clean room, an overpressure chamber)

The principle of operation of the spray booth with a water curtain is as follows.

When spraying the material, a paint mist is formed. The fan, which is installed on the roof of the spray booth, creates a vacuum and draws polluted air through the opening in the spray booth at the bottom of the front curtain.

Also, particles of paint and dust are deposited on the front front surface, which are captured and carried away in a continuous stream into the bath of the spray booth and settle in the water.

Polluted air, which got into the internal cavity of the spray water chamber with the air flow, is subjected to additional purification. In Italian paint booths there are several water cascades, in Russian paint booths it is filtered by an irrigation system. The air is cleaned from spray waste.

Final cleaning - dry filtration installed in front of the fans ( or )

Water spray booths can be of various modifications: with a floor, with side walls, without a floor and without walls. The choice of model depends on the technology of painting and the product, as well as the requirements for the quality of the coating.

Spray booths carry out the function of extracting and cleaning the air.

When creating a painting area, it is very important to ensure the correct microclimate in the spray zone (the desired temperature regime), as well as the incoming air must be cleaned of dust and dirt, this will allow to achieve excellent conditions for obtaining a high quality coating.

Sooner or later, every car needs a paint job. We are talking about 100 - 150 thousand kilometers in the case of a domestic vehicle and 300 - 400 thousand kilometers if the car is imported, not of Chinese origin. You don’t have many options - use the services of a company service or garage masters, as well as do everything yourself by building a paint box. Even if we take into account the cost of renting equipment, a do-it-yourself spray booth will cost an order of magnitude cheaper than the services of painters.

Paint booth requirements

If a spray booth is set up in the garage, the room must meet the following requirements.

  1. Mandatory wall insulation and refusal to use combustible materials.
  2. Achieving ultimate tightness.
  3. A three-meter wall should be covered with a matte film to attract and hold dust particles. The resource of such a surface will be enough to paint 10 or more cars. Additionally, do not forget to treat the matte powder coating with a fireproof layer.
  4. Two doors will ensure compliance with fire safety. Tightness and ease of opening are the main requirements for these elements of the room.
  5. The floor must be designed so that air flows freely. The coating in the form of a multilayer lattice will cope with this task, which will ensure optimal inflow and removal of air masses.
  6. If the finished floor is metal, it should be installed 40 cm above similar surfaces in adjoining rooms. The bridge will soften the difference in floor surfaces.
  7. Unhindered entry into the box and optimal air exchange can be achieved by means of a concrete floor, the base of which will be on the same level as the adjoining rooms.
  8. When arranging the ventilation system, pay attention to the quality of the fasteners. If the air intake ducts become clogged, the fumes from the paint and varnish solutions will imperceptibly accumulate, which will lead to an explosion or a localized fire.
  9. Be sure to consult with a specialist before carrying out construction work. It is also important to learn the principles of safe painting work.

What is it and how to produce it? You can learn about this from the detailed material of our specialist.

A do-it-yourself spray booth in the garage requires careful arrangement of a filter system with an exhaust pipe.

  1. With a single-engine spray booth, the filter roll surface is laid around the perimeter of the entire ceiling. Removable pocket filters, fixed in front of the ventilation system, will ensure the delay of large litter.
  2. If the room is twin-engine, you need to take care of an additional filter in the floor. For installation of the structure, you can choose a metal flooring or an air duct system. Since the device takes on a significant load due to the lowering of the spray mist and its intake by suction through the holes, therefore the filter components used must be designed for rough cleaning. As an option, you can install a fine cassette screen in front of the device.

Sheathing and flooring

Also, a do-it-yourself spray booth for cars is carried out taking into account the requirements for arranging the floor. It is necessary to make trenches in the finished floor and cover it with a metal grate to raise its level by 15 cm, at least. The ground cavity will become a place to install a ventilating motor.

If there is no suitable floor in the room, you have two options.

  1. If the flooring is solid, you can dig a rectangular hole with a recess of a meter or two trenches. If it is impossible to implement this stage, it is allowed to lay the second floor with an indent of 20 cm. The hood for painting in the garage is installed in this space. It is also necessary to provide for the removal of air masses outside the paint box.
  2. If a viewing hole is already present, it remains to use a metal reinforcement grid to cover the recess. The boards must be laid under the crate in the form of wedges, while an acute angle should form at the garage entrance. The air pipe goes outside from the underground cavity, and they will perform the function of lower ventilation in the room.

Organization of lighting

Technically correct lighting in the paint booth makes it easy to eliminate flaws in fresh paint and notice dust particles in the air. The best option for the human eye will be fluorescent lamps, which will ensure stable productivity of the work performed. Technological rules require illumination of 600 - 1000 lux. Fluorescent lamps should be mounted in two rows along the ceiling-wall perimeter. If it is impossible to achieve this electrification option, you can limit yourself to ceiling lighting.

Portable lighting is usually used when painting the lower elements of the vehicle.

Heating system

The requirements of temperature standards must be taken into account without fail, whether it is the arrangement of a home-made professional or budget spray booth. Failure to comply with this category of requirements leads not only to a decrease in the quality of the paintwork, but also increases the risk of deterioration in the health of the employee:

  • local heating and electric heaters are sufficient in winter;
  • installing a heat gun will allow you to warm up the interior space and key ceiling points;
  • if large-scale operation is not expected, it is not economically feasible to buy a heat generator, since it will not pay off.

Consider the degree of workload of the paint box when choosing a drying method, which is an obligatory step after applying a paint coating to the surface of a car.

  1. If a single painting is intended, air drying may be preferred. Such a procedure will be quite long, and this factor acts as the main drawback.
  2. If the paint booth is being set up for commercial purposes, infrared equipment will be the smarter choice, as it will dry much sooner. Among the key advantages of infrared drying, it is worth highlighting the ability to dry any primer or putty, which becomes necessary during a full reconstruction of the vehicle. Energy consumption is economical.

Often, for the interior decoration of the paint box, it is customary to choose sheathing with metal or plastic corrugated board. Such a surface is easy to process, moreover, accumulated dust will be immediately noticeable on light walls. Ideally, the color of the coating should be matte white. Decor elements in this case are allowed, it is not necessary to adhere to the standard finish:

  1. Cement-sand plaster is suitable for finishing the walls of a small garage, reorganized into a spray booth. Previously, in this case, it is worth moistening the surface from the sprayer. The plaster will act like a sponge and bind dust with water, which will ensure the cleanliness of the walls.
  2. OSB-plates or metal will contribute to the accumulation of dust, which can only be fully removed with a vacuum cleaner.
  3. Plastic panels, in turn, accumulate 10 times more dust than wood and metal surfaces.

Many today decide to paint cars in their own garage. A do-it-yourself spray booth is an opportunity to do what you love at a professional level.

Choose the best option - do it yourself

It is clear that you can go in a simple and standard way by buying expensive equipment for service stations and installing it in your garage. In this case, you will have to buy a lot, including a spray booth. This option is not bad, but it will require an investment of a considerable amount of money.

There is another way, which will be discussed in this article. This is the construction of a do-it-yourself spray booth.

The spray booth is a special room designed for a difficult process. In this case, this is the most difficult process. Needless to say, in order for the painting to be carried out correctly in such a room, everything must be thought out to the smallest detail. It is important first of all to pay attention to the chamber, which must be built correctly.

Peculiarities

The spray booth filter is an indispensable component of any room of this type. A system of this type will allow for cleaning, which is injected from the outside, and even in the chamber itself. It also removes the mist from paint and varnish to the outside. It is clear that without good ventilation, it is not worth talking about any painting process, since the quality of work is reduced several times. Therefore, a good hood and - these are the most important elements.

Needless to say, the air that enters the chamber must be as clean as possible, that is, completely filtered. If you do not pay attention to this, defects on the entire plane of the painted surfaces will occur more often. To avoid this, it is advised to install fine cleaning. And it is recommended to place it at the outlet of the air box. In principle, it should be a tin box mounted above the ceiling.

Dryer

The painting chamber for drying, in principle, should consist of several main components:

  • the premises itself;
  • equipment providing ventilation in the chamber;
  • equipment for heating the drying chamber;

Let's start with the first one. The location for the work is selected depending on individual preferences. In particular, what size the room should be, how to finish the ceiling and the like, the owner himself decides.

Although there are certain rules that must be followed. These include the following canons:

  • necessarily in the spray booth there must be a trench or a second floor for air removal;
  • walls must be made of a material that is not dusty and is not a source of dust;
  • the ceiling must have a certain shape (usually a sloping shape that does not allow air to collect in one place).

Well, ventilation, which should work indoors both in painting mode and in drying mode. As for the painting mode, it involves the following processes:

  • supply of clean air having a temperature of 25-30 degrees;
  • the possibility of taking clean air from outside;
  • the ability to remove unwanted air and dust from the chamber.

But in the drying mode, the processes are slightly different, although in reality everything is the same. So this is:

  • air supply, but already with a temperature of 45–90 degrees;
  • the intake of clean air from the outside is not completely, but by 10%;
  • ejection from the exhaust air chamber by only 10%.

Ventilation systems and their types

Ventilation systems are usually divided into two main types:

  • ventilation with a single-engine unit, where the air is heated inside the room and always from above;
  • ventilation with twin-engine units, where, in addition to the supply air from above, there is also a lower unit that sucks air.

Both types of cameras have a similar principle of operation and from the external environment. In both of them, air is forced into the paint room through a ceiling filter. And excess pressure is created, which squeezes out the air with the paint. The air outlet passes through the second floor or through a trench in the floor.

As for the units, in a twin-engine spray booth it will supply air to the paint brush, and the other will suck it out. And this will happen on this principle of operation, when a little more air is supplied than is taken out. It turns out that, although the exchange of air in the drying chamber becomes more active, rarefaction does not occur.

The essence of the air exchange that occurs in the room can be explained in other words. To do this, imagine the following picture: in front of us is a plastic canister with a closed lid, in which two holes are made. One hole opposite the other. Let's get into the canister. After that, clean air is blown into one of the holes. What's happening? Smoke will come out of another hole. and thread the hose into the hole where the smoke came from. And we get more active air exchange.

The video shows how to make a do-it-yourself spray booth:

Now about twin-engine spray booths. They are generally not economically viable for self-production. You have to make a simple design. This is a rather complex device, involving a suction motor that creates a vacuum. But you need to make everything in such a way that the clouds of vapor from paint or varnish do not pass through the structure itself, and also do not deposit on the blades. Otherwise, it will lead to an imbalance of the device.

We turn to the ceiling, where we consider the design for supplying clean air. It is from here that it will enter the spray booth. And in order to successfully assemble the structure with your own hands, you need to buy the following materials: air vents, "snail", filters. It will also be necessary to make a container on your own, where air will first flow.

Let's start with the "snail". This is a kind of device that pumps air. The main purpose of the "snail" is to provide supply and exhaust ventilation. Such devices are equipped with impellers made of galvanized steel and curved lamellae, which increase their productivity and pressure.

In addition, each of the ventilation methods has. And if at home the use of twin-motor ventilation is not considered economically viable, still some people use it. The fact is that two-chamber options provide better ventilation and air circulation. And if your paint shop expects a lot of traffic, then building a twin-engine ventilation option will be a profitable business.

On the contrary, if you think that you will limit yourself to painting, building a single-engine chamber will be more correct.

The video shows the correct operation of the ventilation unit:

The most ideal option would be to build a camera inside another room, and not separately. If it is possible to install a paint job inside the workshop where the main type of work will be carried out, all that remains is to dig trenches to remove air. As for the walls, they can be built from drywall, which is sheathed on a metal frame. In this case, you can use mineral wool, which.

Now about the floor. Trenches should be dug two and always in parallel. In the place of their output to the street, connect them into one common one.

Subsequently, the trenches can be covered with metal grating or welded ceilings made of squares or pipes.

And further. In order for the air to be evenly vented along the entire length of the room, the trench should be made in such a way that the gap narrows towards the air outlet. Otherwise, if this is not done, the air exchange will occur only at the place of its exit to the street.

Water and its effectiveness

Chambers with a water curtain have their own characteristics. Their equipment includes:

  • a metal pallet with water, which is covered with a grate;
  • special panel for regulation;
  • pump;
  • door locks;
  • stations;
  • water curtain panels;
  • nozzles;
  • corner pipe;
  • exhaust fans and more.

Such types can be additionally equipped with a cableway, an air heating and convection device and a control system.

Ventilation like no other

And now let's see how to make a spray booth that combines several modes. It turns out that there is another option for creating an outlet for air from the chamber. This is a supply and exhaust ventilation used in three modes.

The first mode of using supply and exhaust ventilation involves the active circulation of air, which undergoes continuous ventilation, and then flows back into the chamber. The main purpose of this mode is to ensure thorough air purification from dust and other elements..

The next mode takes air from the street. And the air coming from the outside must be filtered, heated to the required temperature and enters the chamber. As for the removal of air, it leaves through special holes made in the floor. The main purpose of this mode is when the staining process takes place. In this way, drops of paint and fog formed from varnish are removed.

The third mode involves pumping air from the chamber. And in this case, the air undergoes mandatory filtration, heating up to sixty degrees, it enters back into the chamber. This mode helps to dry the car after painting much more efficiently.

Particular attention in the design process should be given to the location of the ventilation openings - both inlet and outlet. So, if they are not positioned correctly, this will lead to the appearance of so-called dead zones in the camera. As a result, fine dust hangs in the chamber of paintwork materials, which further affects the quality of the painted surfaces.

Full automation of painting

Now let's take a look at the cameras used today in the most advanced car paint centers. A powder painting booth, and we are talking about it, implies the presence of such equipment, on which the speed and quality of painting products will depend.

The first and most important condition for the normal operation of such a chamber is the provision of such a regime that would prevent the spread of powder in the room. In addition, you should stock up on equipment that would ensure the capture, as well as the collection of powder that has not settled on the product. Well, it’s not worth talking about ensuring the safety of working conditions.

Such a spray booth is based on the automatic application of powder paint to metal products, in this case cars. In addition, in such a chamber, the installation of special filters for fine air purification is additionally provided. This provides a direct discharge of purified air into the room.

Video about what kind of ventilation system is needed for a spray booth:

The automatic floor cleaning system in such a chamber does not surprise anyone. By moving a special brush across the floor, the powder is swept into a special hopper, which, in turn, is equipped with a vibrating screen and ejectors that suck the powder.

Well, like everything. We hope that this article will help those who are going to build a spray booth with their own hands.

Painting cars with your own hands is a responsible procedure that requires compliance with a number of conditions. A specialized camera for painting cars with your own hands - this option is chosen by many motorists today. The purchase of such an object will not be cheap, so some prefer to independently provide what a do-it-yourself spray booth requires - drawings, materials, assembly.

Painting a car in this way has a number of serious advantages over using an airbrush in your own garage. Due to the tightness, you can not worry about the ingress of foreign particles of dust and dirt onto the surface to be painted.

In addition, the design eliminates the occurrence of unwanted air turbulence, due to which the enamel will lie on the surface of insufficient quality, streaks, pimples and other defects are formed.

Do-it-yourself car painting

Do-it-yourself paint brushes are profitable, but you will have to work hard to build them. With a competent approach and a conscientious attitude to work, you will be able to independently build a car painting booth, which will help you avoid serious financial expenses and organize everything to your liking. Below we will look at how to make a paint booth with your own hands, and what steps are needed for this.\

First stage

Before you build a paint booth with your own hands, you need to imagine what it will look like and prepare everything you need. Draw a project on paper, where the future spray booth along with all the nodes will be shown on a scale:

  • room;
  • heat generator;
  • heat gun;
  • ventilation system.

These are the main points, each of which includes many smaller elements - doors, thermal insulation, lighting system, etc.

Spray booth room

Let's talk about the room

Before you make a spray booth with your own hands, you are looking for a suitable room. It can be a metal garage or a large workshop - the main thing is that you have the space and the ability to equip everything accordingly.

A car painting booth must have walls that will meet a number of requirements:

  • fire resistance;
  • tightness;
  • the ability to periodically wash;
  • the presence of thermal insulation.

The last point is especially important when it comes to a garage with steel walls - you will have to make them double and put a layer of basalt wool or other refractory heat-insulating material.

The room must be airtight

Be sure to pay attention to the floor - it must allow air to circulate freely. For this purpose, make a coating in the form of a multilayer lattice - in this way, normal air removal and inflow will be ensured from below.

Two doors are a mandatory requirement for fire safety. They should be easy to open to allow for emergency evacuation in the event of a fire, and sealed to prevent dust and debris from entering the room.

The dimensions of the chamber must be sufficient so that the master does not have obstacles for free movement during the work. A concrete or metal frame can be chosen as the basis. An exhaust mechanism with filters and valves is arranged under the floor surface. Think about the need for walkways to move.

Spray booth with water curtain on the doors

Lighting is important

In the process of painting cars with your own hands, one of the very important roles is played by the lighting of the room. It is necessary that it be bright enough, comfortable for the eyes, and not give shadows and highlights.

Practice shows that the most convenient option will be fluorescent fluorescent lamps - they are placed on the ceiling. To ensure that the overview of the lower part of the machine is sufficient, several oblong light sources are hung along the walls.

Daylight fluorescent lamps

An equally effective solution to the problem of lighting will be LED lamps. Lighting of this type is becoming increasingly popular due to a number of advantages that LEDs have over other options:

  • bright high-quality lighting;
  • minimal energy consumption;
  • low operating temperature;
  • reliability;
  • durability

Today, you can easily install LED lighting in the room - it will cost a little more, but the result is worth it.

Without providing high-quality lighting, you will not be able to fully control the painting process, which will negatively affect the final result of the work.

Proper lighting in the spray booth

Room ventilation, air purification and drying

Do-it-yourself paint brushes are built taking into account all the requirements of painting technology and safety. A key position here is occupied by competently arranged air ventilation. She is responsible for purifying the air, as well as ensuring that the mist of paint is properly deposited and removed.

Depending on which principle is used in the ventilation system of the room, two types of chambers are distinguished:

  • with one motor
  • with two motors.

In the first case, air is supplied into the room from above, and the fog settles down - the necessary pressure is applied to it. In the end, it is output through an individual channel arranged for this purpose. In the second case, one of the motors pumps air, the second sucks it out, taking it out of the chamber.

Paint booth ventilation

The design will require high-performance ceiling air filters in order to exclude the possibility of foreign particles entering the painting area. For this purpose, it is recommended to choose air filters operating in a two-phase mode - in the first phase, large types of pollution are removed, in the second - small ones. At the same time, it is important to take into account that cleaning of both incoming and outgoing air flows is necessary. Bottom-mounted filters clog faster and need to be replaced much more frequently.

The installation of filters should provide for the possibility of turbulence in the air flow with enamel particles - for this you need to correctly position them around the perimeter of the room and take into account the air pressure.

After painting, the car will need to be dried - for this a special device is arranged. As drying, a heat generator is used, which operates on an advantageous type of fuel. Some use infrared heaters for this purpose. The main requirement for drying is a uniform heat supply to avoid overheating.

Supply and exhaust ventilation in the spray booth

Some more useful information

In order to complete the interior decoration, use non-combustible materials - for example, metal. You should not choose an option such as lining, as the risk of fire increases. Depending on how correctly the finishing work is done, it will be possible to assess the degree of tightness, which is important to avoid the ingress of dust and foreign particles. Prefer smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces - this will simplify the cleaning process.

Think about the premises where inventory, paints, professional equipment, safety equipment, workwear will be stored.

The work of painting a car is facilitated by the presence of automatic process control. This, of course, will affect the cost of the entire project, but, on the other hand, you will receive a number of invaluable advantages. The automatic control panel must have a panel made of durable, reliable material. It should be easy to use, ergonomic and comfortable. Think about the possibility of a quick transition between manual and automatic modes.

Conclusion

The construction of a specialized paint booth for a car is a laborious process that will require a lot of effort and energy. You will have to monitor information about existing options and come up with your own project based on them - you can take any ready-made solution as a basis.

The process of working on the implementation of the project is difficult, but interesting - here you can apply your creativity, imagination and ability to cope with difficulties.

Education: secondary special. Specialty: car mechanic. Professional diagnostics, repair, maintenance of passenger cars of foreign production 2000-2015. Extensive experience with Japanese and German cars.

In most cases, the search for information about the device of the spray booth begins when the need arises in a professional room, i.e. when a person is already working with car enamels, but the current state of affairs does not suit him. In this case, the principle of operation of ventilation and air purification is generally clear, but to implement the idea with your own hands, specific drawings and diagrams are required. There are countless nuances and traps in this matter, but the main thing is the understanding of the processes of drying and coloring, knowledge of the basic requirements for temperature conditions.

In no case should you limit yourself to ready-made solutions: after considering several typical projects, you can select elements that you cannot refuse, add your own details to the project, etc. It is important to understand what is really necessary in a particular case, and what can be obtained for the allocated funds. Some elements will probably have to be abandoned, but with an understanding of the basic processes, there is always an opportunity to save money.

Typical designs and principle of operation of the camera

The main requirement for the chamber is clean air of the required temperature. The idea is simple, but to achieve its implementation, given the commercial nature of the design, is quite problematic. The first thing to consider when designing is the required tinning speed. The design should provide for business development, which primarily refers to the ability to complement the premises of your own coloring room (or a separate workshop) and install more powerful equipment. The photo of this camera shows that painters have the opportunity to move around on lifts, but first of all, you should pay attention to the competent combination of lamps and ventilation grilles.

It is difficult to attach a workshop to the camera or to allocate a room for tinting, but it can be no less difficult to transfer equipment to its own power generators. The last condition directly concerns the wiring, but a place for a welding machine (compressor) may also be required. In terms of the volume of painting, there are two types of spray booth:

  1. Industrial - available or in theory, rails and devices for lifting the machine and automating movement, hydraulic baskets and powerful welding machines.
  2. Commercial - a box made of sheet iron or a brick block, starting equipment from a standard electrical network (in a rare case, welding power plants are used), the size rarely leaves the limits of 5x10m sufficient for painting passenger cars.

Painting procedures should be carried out in an atmosphere completely free from dust and insects. Beginning painters have to clean the room of dust with their own hands using rags and an artificial water curtain. However, the design of the chamber must include three stages of ventilation, the implementation of which is impossible without automation:

  1. Initial air intake, filtration and heating of the room to room temperature.
  2. Painting stage - continuous air injection and heating up to 25-30 ˚C.
  3. Drying - circulation of air heated to 30-60 ˚C.

Air heating, ventilation and thermal insulation are parts of the equation that directly affect each other. It is impossible to change one of these elements without changing the other two. Improperly arranged insulation during the drying phase will require the elimination of continuously formed condensate. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate ventilation for both stages of painting indicated in this diagram.

Air filtration and distribution

In a proper spray booth, continuous complete air renewal should be carried out. Therefore, it is more logical to place the hood at the bottom, and the supply fan at the top. It is not correct to place air outlets just above the area to be painted, however, using a correctly oriented supply plenum, the principle of which is shown in this drawing, will allow you to better manage the space.

An adjustable gas burner connected during the drying phase can be used to heat the air. The heating element is located after the filter and fan, sometimes outside the pipe. In any case, the design of the paint room should provide for reliable insulation of the heater from explosive gases, so the air through the heater should move strictly in one direction, and blow through the attic space (pipes, plenums) at such a speed as to prevent reverse movement. When the fan is turned off, the operation of the heater must stop immediately. The location of the filter over the main area of the ceiling implies a uniform distribution of air over the area, however, with a weak fan, it may simply not be enough - a preliminary calculation is important for determining the area of \u200b\u200bgrids (plenums) and their location without the formation of turbulence zones.

Cleaning of the incoming air is carried out by several filters, while the coarse filter must be located before the fan, and the fine filter directly at the border of the box. As the latter, cotton filters are often used, which are sheet (roll) material placed on top of the ventilation grate. The longest service life is provided by pocket (cellular) filters that comply with the DIN 53438 standard (pre-filtration) of the European standard EN779 and DIN EN 779 (internal filter class F5). In the above drawing of the project, the primary filter is indicated by the number 2, and the air intake by the number 1.

Drying mode

Safety is the main condition for the development and assembly of the construction of the spray booth with your own hands. Therefore, ventilation performs two functions at once: the elimination of toxic gases and the purification of air from dust. Immediately after the end of the painting procedure, the maximum release of solvent vapors occurs. All types of enamels have their own distribution on the time scale of evaporation intensity, but in general, complete air purification takes only 10-20 minutes (otherwise, a matte layer forms on the surface of the enamel).

After the end of the painting procedure, the chamber is ventilated for some more time in the standard mode, but after that there is no direct need for clean air. In view of this fact and the cost of heating the room, an air recirculation system is used during drying, saving 40-50% of energy. To do this, the supply and exhaust ventilation are connected by a valve that allows 70-85% of the air to pass back. This drawing demonstrates the principle of operation, while it must be borne in mind that a renewal of 15-20% of the flow on each cycle is necessary even at the end of drying.

Paint Booth Materials

A frequent solution to the issue is the conversion of a domestic car into a chamber, but in this case it is difficult to organize the correct exhaust ventilation. The device of the box for painting at the design stage should provide for an underground hood (second floor, trenches) and an attic space for organizing air distribution. Having provided for this possibility when laying a concrete base, in the future it is easy to transform the exhaust and inflow with your own hands already outside the room for painting work.

If the ceiling ventilation grill occupies less than 2/3 of the ceiling, then the ceiling must necessarily have slopes along the edges to eliminate dead zones. Most often, these slopes are combined with side lights. Exhaust ventilation should have less power, so the grate can take up the entire floor or most of it, as seen in the photo of this spray booth.

Most fans have to be equal to the standard dimensions of the garage “6 × 4”, however, it should be noted that 20-40 cm will have to be immediately “cut off” from the ceiling to equip the supply ventilation. The walls are sheathed with sheet iron, mineral wool or other non-combustible insulation (minimum min. wool - 60 cm thick) is laid between the wall and galvanized steel. If there is an initial brickwork in the project, you can limit yourself to PVC panels, however, it would be correct to use galvanized sheets, which are offered in the device of any professional paint boxes.
