A bedspread for a bedroom is exactly the piece of furniture that can, if there is such a need, focus all attention on the bed or become an excellent backdrop for a stylishly designed headboard.

At first glance, it may seem that choosing it is not difficult, but in this matter, not everything is so simple.

As soon as you start looking, you will understand that the number of different materials and designs for bedroom bedspreads is much higher than you imagined.

You will be attracted by chic silk products, cheerful bedspreads made of multi-colored shreds, delicate pastel shades, as well as colors bursting with passion.

Which option should you opt for? Today we will try to answer this question.

Criteria for choosing bedspreads for the bedroom

In order not to make a mistake in choosing, and to find very warm bedspreads and blankets on the bed for a bedroom, you should remember a number of basic criteria:

  • The style of the room;
  • The size and shape of the bed;
  • The prevailing colors in the interior of the bedroom;
  • Room area;
  • Practicality and safety of materials.

Of course, relying only on these parameters, it is impossible to choose the ideal bedspread for the bedroom. Let us consider in more detail all the subtleties and nuances of this case.

The choice of colors for bedspreads and the harmony of shades in the interior

We invite you to familiarize yourself with the basic concepts regarding the selection of a color palette for bedspreads in the bedroom:

Interior color match. This is the simplest, but very effective technique - when choosing the color of the bedspread, you can focus on the shades that prevail in the room's decor. For example, blue goes well with emerald and sky blue, and green goes well with olive or mint.

It is also allowed to match the color of the bedspread with the color of the wall decoration. A monophonic wall covering requires textiles in the same tone, however, the presence of a pattern on the bedspread is mandatory.

If the wallpaper is decorated with some well-defined images, the bedspread is matched to the style of the pattern or ornament.

Most luxury bedroom bedspreads match the color of the furniture and suite. With this technique, you can focus on expensive furniture upholstery or the naturalness of the materials from which the bed is made.

Style harmony

If you look closely at the photo of the bedspreads for the bedroom, you will certainly notice that all design elements are similar to each other and are selected within one specific style.

A romantic atmosphere or a strict restrained style, the predominance of minimalism or an accentuated luxurious interior - each of the listed styles has its own type of bedspreads:

For furnishings in the style of classicism, as a rule, they choose a whole set of bedspreads in the bedroom, which also includes curtains, and sometimes even a canopy. Such a solution will add elegance to the room, and textile elements matched to each other will make it incredibly stylish.

The interior in the spirit of the Baroque is the predominance of luxury items and expensive textured materials.

The bedspread for such a bedroom should correspond to the peculiarities of the style, the ideal fabric is aristocratic velvet, decorated with rhinestones or chic fur. Most often, baroque bedspreads are decorated with lace, fringe or luxurious draperies.

For a bedroom in a minimalist style, textiles with a clear texture are selected, but without intricate color combinations and complex ornaments.

The ideal bedspread for this style is an unremarkable plain material, decorated with a pattern of geometric shapes.

The theme of the rustic style is quilted bedspreads from various patches of fabric, decorated with floral ornaments. The most successful color scheme for this option is delicate pastel shades.

The modern bedroom bedspread is a shiny satin fabric with numerous frills and lush ruffles.

For interior design in ethnic style, it is recommended to choose a set of bedspreads with curtains for the bedroom, imitating the colors of animal skins.

For a bedroom without a pronounced interior style, bedspreads of neutral colors are suitable - white, milky, peach.

If the situation in the room seems boring and faceless to you, then the bedspread of a bright contrasting color will become a kind of “highlight” of the interior and create the desired accent.

Bedspread material for the bedroom - the nuances of choice

Before buying a ready-made bedspread for the bedroom, you should take into account all the subtleties and nuances of choosing the material from which it is sewn. The most important criterion is, of course, safety.

In the bedroom, there is no place for low-quality textile materials, because they are not durable and can even be harmful to health by provoking an allergic reaction.

So, we present you the most popular materials for making bedspreads:

  • Practical and elegant fur will never go out of style. Let's admit both natural, and artificial variant.
  • Viscose is a very soft, smooth fabric that is very pleasant to the touch. Possesses high hygroscopicity. (Attention: keep in mind that the product may shrink a little after the first wash).
  • Silk is expensive and pleasant to the body, but a very impractical material. Products made from this fabric require special care, they are also not recommended to be washed in a washing machine.
  • Fleece products are considered very practical and beautiful bedspreads for the bedroom. Such material is able to maintain a presentable appearance for many years, while it does not need special care or delicate hand washing.

As you can see, a huge selection of textiles for the bedroom allows you to choose a bedspread for almost any interior.

It doesn’t matter if you give preference to animal ornaments or floral patterns, choose a calm plain or bright textured bedspread, stop at a shiny gloss or fluffy fur, the main thing is that the purchased textiles please the eye and bring harmony both to the interior of your bedroom and to your life.

To update the interior of the bedroom, you can sew a bedspread on the bed; the ideas are so numerous that it is easy to choose the right option. With the help of textiles, a color accent is created or a large piece of furniture harmoniously fits into the overall design. The decision on the design of the bedroom should take into account only a competent combination of the general style and individual furnishings. After all, a chic bedspread made of brocade or satin will look ridiculous in a small room with inexpensive furnishings.

To update the interior of the bedroom, you can sew a bedspread on the bed

The main item in the bedroom of any style is the bed. It is she who is the center of the composition when choosing the design of the room. In small bedrooms of urban apartments, the bed occupies a significant area of the room and is of dominant importance.

Based on these considerations, the choice of colors for the bedspread is dictated by the need to make the bed less or more visible. In large bedrooms, it makes sense to emphasize its importance, highlighting it as a bright spot in the interior. For this, a blanket made of a contrasting or light-reflecting smooth fabric such as satin can serve. To link the selected object with the gamut of the environment and harmonize the design, pillows, a path or a cape, a bed valance combined with the decor help.

If the room is small, then you want to visually reduce the spacious, especially the double bed, thereby expanding the space of the bedroom. In this case, it makes sense to select the bedspread itself so that it matches the color scheme of the interior. Small details can be made of contrasting fabrics, create the effect of small areas of color and distract attention from a large piece of furniture. Bright pillows or a rug, a cape on the head of the bed, an insert of contrasting fabric on a plain bedspread or an appliqué stripe - these are the tricks that can be used when decorating a small bedroom.

With the help of textiles, you can create a color accent or harmoniously fit a large piece of furniture into the overall design.

How to choose the right bedspread model?

The choice of model or style of bedspread should be dictated by the personal taste of the hostess herself. But you should not try to fit into the interior a thing that does not fit the general style of the room. Lush satin products with a border of frills and ruffles are unlikely to look harmonious in a modern, cold high-tech interior or in a minimalist bedroom.

The cape on the bed should be appropriate in each particular bedroom. A Provence or other rustic setting is decorated with patchwork, but for a Victorian bedroom, such an element may not be suitable. Fashionable solutions in the design of the bed must be combined in style with the design of the bedroom.

How to sew a bedspread yourself?

Sewing a bedspread with your own hands is not the most difficult thing. The design project you see can be realized if you try a little. The basis of a beautiful bedspread is a properly selected pattern.

In the simplest case, this is a rectangle, to calculate the length and width of which you need to perform the following measurements:

  • bed length (from headboard to footboard) and an allowance of 3.5 cm for free fitting corners;
  • width and allowance of 3 cm;
  • bed height - from the surface of the mattress to the floor or the desired height of the overhang of the edge of the bedspread.

The choice of model or style of bedspread should be dictated by the personal taste of the hostess herself.

The height measurement must be multiplied by 2 and added to the width value with an allowance. Additionally, you need to take into account the allowance for the hem of the edge (about 7 cm). If the bed has 2 headboards, then you don’t have to add anything to the length value, but if there is a free edge at the foot, you will need to make an overhang here as well. In this case, the value of its height and the hem allowance (3.5 cm) are added to the length of the bed. If the bed does not have a headboard, then the height value multiplied by 2 will have to be added to the length, doubling the hem allowance.

Bedspread with frill

To make a pattern for a bedspread with frills, the same measurements of the height, length and width of the bed will do. But the rectangle that will lie on top of the bed should be built separately, guided by the values \u200b\u200bfor the length and width, taking into account another 2 cm allowance for the seams when connecting the panel with the frill.

Cut the strips for the sides as indicated in the diagram: their width is equal to the desired length of the frill or the height of the bed, and the length should be 1.5-2 times the length of the side of the panel where it will be sewn. The splendor of the folds on the side overhangs depends precisely on the length of the strip (Fig. 1). If you want the bedspread to drape beautifully at the corners, then you need to add inserts (the corner part of the frill is in the diagram).

Complex bedspread

The two-tier design of the ruffled bedspread is not at all as complicated as it might seem. The panel of the upper layer must be cut out according to the scheme (Fig. 2). The edge is modeled individually, it can be made both straight and curly. If desired, the cloth is made with a lining and filler from a thin layer of padding polyester. In this version, it will be additionally decorated with curly stitch. Cut all 3 parts in one pattern.

The side overhangs of the lower tier are ordinary frills made of dark-colored fabric. A pattern for them is given in the previous section. Sew strips of frills to the wrong side of the panel when making the product.

How to make a walkway or cape?

A track is a narrow strip of contrasting color. It is placed along or across the bed, and a diagonal arrangement is also possible. The path to the bed is cut out in the form of a rectangle of the desired width and length (Fig. 3). The dimensions of the product are chosen arbitrarily.

A cape is usually made for a headboard (Fig. 4). The raised element may be rigid, without upholstery fabric trim. In this case, the cape serves not only as a design element, but also serves as a soft pad between the sleeper's head and the bed frame.

If the headboard has soft upholstery, but its color does not suit the designer, the cape helps to hide this drawback. In this case, it is purely aesthetic in nature. A small removable part can also perform the function of protecting the headboard from dust and dirt.

You can cut out a cape for the headboard by measuring its length and width. Draw a rectangle in such a way that the cape completely covers the front side of the headboard and can be folded onto the part facing the wall.

We embody the idea - we make out the bedspread

To sew a bedspread of any model, you need to prepare the following:

  • the cloth;
  • scissors;
  • sewing machine;
  • measuring instruments, chalk or pencil.

Based on a simple rectangle, you can make amazingly beautiful bedspreads for a bedroom of any style. The difference will be only in the decor. One of the simplest trim options is ruffles.

The photo on the left (Fig. 5) shows 2 color solutions of the same style. In the first case, we got a bedspread with a bright spot of the rainbow in the foreground and an applique that complements it on the panel and pillows (above). This design is suitable for rustic styles, decorating a nursery, it will be appropriate in a small bedroom, if you choose a panel to match the decor and curtains.

The same throw in white (below) would look great in a Victorian bedroom, shabby chic, Mediterranean or colonial setting. A spacious bedroom, where there is no need to hide the size of the bed, will only benefit from a snow-white structure in the center of the composition.

By placing the ruffles differently, you can get a product of a different style, as in the photo on the right. For all its simplicity and lack of pretentious details, a modest gray, beige or other plain bedspread is suitable for a teenager's room and for a strict Victorian setting. If you wish, you can also change this design by making the sewn ruffles multi-colored or by making them from dark and light stripes.

How to make a ruffled bedspread?

Cut out a rectangle for the base and process its edges into a hem. Prepare material for frills: cut multi-colored or plain pieces of fabric into strips. If the strips turn out to be short, they need to be sewn together until the tape reaches the required length.

Finish the edges of the tape with a zigzag seam or overcast on an overlog. Set the maximum stitch length, lay a straight stitch along the tape, along the center line or closer to one edge. Pulling one of the threads, collect the ribbon.

Mark the places where the ruffles will be sewn. If the option with finishing one corner is selected, then you will need to draw arcs on the panel, starting from the smallest. The distance between the lines should be equal to the width of the ruffle ribbon or slightly less than it. Lay the collected strip so that the line in the center runs along the intended line, pin it with pins and sew on a typewriter.

For the variant with stripes from folds, lines can be drawn across, along, diagonally across the panel. In the future, proceed in the same way as in the first case. The distance between the marking lines must be chosen so that the free edge of the strip covers the sewing place of the previous tier.

How to sew a bedspread with a frill around the perimeter?

Prepare the central part: cut out a rectangle to fit the bed or a curly piece for a bunk model. If required, mark the lines of the decorative stitch and stitch the rectangle on the machine.

Cut out stripes to create frills, process the edges “in a hem” or with an overlock seam. Stripes can be compound, as in the previous case. Depending on personal desire, lay folds along the upper edge of the frill strip or gather it.

Cut out the corner pieces, bend them and, if necessary, trim them with ruffles, as indicated above. The corners of the bedspread on the double bed will look like in fig. 6. Connect the frill strips and corner pieces. Fold the rectangular panel and the upper edge of the ribbon right sides together, baste and stitch. The place of sewing the frill can be additionally trimmed with decorative braid.

If a complex two-layer version is planned, then the frill must be sewn from the inside along the perimeter of the central part, leaving the overhangs free. The edges of the upper layer can be connected with bows, left free or attached to the lower layer with decorative buttons. You can make a frill in the form of a gap, that is, do not sew it to the top layer, but fix it on the bed frame with Velcro or Velcro strips (Fig. 7).

Beautiful headboard cape

You can add a stylish bedspread with capes. For the one shown in Fig. 8. The delicate floral detail required a dense fabric for the base and a thin transparent fabric for decoration.

Cut out a rectangle with a length equal to the width of the bed. The height of the headboard in this case is multiplied by 1.5 in order to be able to bend and fasten the cape. These parts will require 2 - for the front and lining. You will need to cut 4 strips for strings, arbitrary length and width. Sew along the perimeter of the base part, at the same time sewing in the ties: 2 in the corners on the back of the cape, 2 in the middle of the front (1/3 of the total width of the rectangle).

For finishing, mark on the basis of the location of the stripes with flowers. Cut ribbons from organza, equal in width to the distance between the decor. Gather both edges of each strip and sew onto the base, aligning the cuts with the marked lines.

Prepare a braid or sew a narrow strip of organza. Rosettes for decoration are made from a strip of the same fabric with an uneven edge, rolled into a roll. Sew each flower by hand to the prepared braid. Sew the finished part along the edges so that it hides the place where the gathered organza strips are attached.

A beautiful designer item can appear in the interior of the bedroom if you spend a little time making it. The key to success will be accuracy and precision in all operations for cutting, assembling and finishing the bedspread.

Attention, only TODAY!

Of all the variety of furniture presented in the house, the most important place is occupied by the bed - this is a place of rest, which should be as comfortable and clean as possible. Care for bedding should be given great attention - your comfort and health depend on them. The use of bedspreads on the bed and sofa is a necessary attribute not only in terms of aesthetics, but also in keeping your bed clean.

Choosing a bedspread for a bedroom or a living room is a complex process, because you need to take into account a variety of product characteristics. This is not only the beauty of the interior, but also practicality. So, how to choose a bedspread for a bed or sofa?

How to choose a bedspread - types of fabric

The variety of fabrics used in the production of bedspreads and sofas provides a wide range of choices both in terms of interior decoration and practicality:
  • satin- strong fabric with a smooth "silky" top surface. Often used to make quilted bedspreads;
  • atlas- can be made from silk, viscose, polyester and other fibers. The stitching makes satin bedspreads especially beautiful. Properties largely depend on the composition of the material, but if you want a satin bedspread to look good for a long time, the shiny side of the fabric requires very careful handling;
  • tapestry- expensive bedspreads, sometimes real works of art, they have a special weave and complex colors. The manufacture of tapestries has been going on since ancient times, numbering many hundreds of years. very durable, beautiful and practical, they do not stretch during washing and operation;
  • jacquard- a beautiful fabric with a relief pattern due to the complex interweaving of threads. Luxurious jacquard bedspreads are a real decoration of any interior;
  • microfiber- soft hygroscopic fabric from the split fiber, generally of an artificial origin. A microfiber bedspread often doubles as a blanket;
  • percale- thin, but despite this sufficiently strong and dense fabric made of non-twisted cotton threads;
  • pique- dense knitted fabric with relief "waffle" drawing;
  • fur- bedspreads made of faux fur are beautiful, they will stylishly decorate both the bedroom and the living room. But they are easily electrified and accumulate dust, and due to the large weight, washing in a washing machine may not work, so you have to carry it to dry cleaning;
  • fleece- thin fluffy fabric made of pile fiber, easy to wash. It is mainly used to make fleece blankets, which are also often used as bedspreads.

Choosing a practical bedspread - materials

A good and practical bedspread should be easy to care for and not lose its appearance after washing. These properties depend on the composition of the bedspread fabric - natural bedspreads are more pleasant to the touch, breathe well, but require care, synthetic ones are durable, bright, beautiful, but electrified and do not allow moisture accumulated in bedding to evaporate while you slept.

The properties of the bedspread and ease of care depend on the material of the fabric:

  • cotton. This natural material has many advantages: it breathes, is pleasant to the touch and does not cause allergies, and is undemanding when washing. Eco-friendly, soft and inexpensive cotton also has disadvantages - pellets form on it over time, it shrinks when washed. Small amounts of synthetic fibers are often added to cotton bedspreads to facilitate care and increase wear resistance;
  • silk- silk bedspreads look especially rich and luxurious. In addition to an expensive appearance and a pleasant silky surface, a silk bedspread has a huge number of positive characteristics: it does not accumulate dust, repels dust mites, does not allow pathogens to multiply, does not cause allergies;
  • viscose or modal- natural breathable material, artificially obtained on the basis of cellulose. Due to the low wear resistance with frequent washing, viscose is most often used in combination with other fibers (cotton, polyester) for the manufacture of bedspreads;
  • acrylic- artificial wool Acrylic bedspreads are soft, beautiful and easy to care for, but prone to static electricity accumulation;
  • bamboo- a fiber obtained from bamboo cellulose combines the environmental friendliness of natural materials, strength and ease of care. Bamboo bedspread is a modern choice that has no drawbacks;
  • linen- natural, durable, wear-resistant, pleasant to the touch and breathable material. A linen bedspread will serve faithfully for a long time, it is easy to wash, but it can only be smoothed out when wet;
  • polyester- man-made fiber, durable and easy to care for, excellent laundering, dries quickly. Its disadvantages include the ability to electrify and poorly pass air and moisture, creating a harmful greenhouse effect for bedding. Therefore, the best combination for a practical bedspread is a certain percentage of polyester as an additive to natural materials;
  • blended fabrics- the combined composition of the material makes the cover more wear-resistant, practical to care for and pleasant to use, favorably combining all the advantages of incoming natural and synthetic fibers.

How to choose a bedspread for the interior

When deciding which bedspread to choose for a bedroom on a bed or in a living room on a sofa, an important criterion, of course, will be its appearance, which will help create comfort and a stylish interior. Therefore, once you have decided on the degree of practicality you need, we move on to choosing the design of the bedspread.

The main rule in this case is compliance with the general style. For example, for a bedroom in modern style, you need to choose plain bedspreads in saturated colors. And the country interior is perfectly emphasized by accessories of warm woody flowers with folk ornaments or a blanket in patchwork patchwork technique.
