Wallpaper vinyl for the kitchen. Vinyl wallpapers - the secrets of choosing Hard vinyl wallpapers that have undergone heat treatment

In most cases, wallpaper is used to finish the walls. The most common are vinyl, they are the most practical and affordable. Having pasted such wallpapers on the walls, it will be possible to forget about repairs for a long time.

Unusual color combination in the kitchen

Kinds

You can organize a large assortment of vinyl wallpapers by decomposing them into groups according to the classes of decorative material. There will be several groups in total:

  • foamed vinyl is cheap and simple, it is very easy to damage such vinyl, so it is not suitable for a kitchen or hallway;
  • compact vinyl is an inexpensive, but practical material, the properties of which allow it to be used in a variety of rooms, including in the interior of the kitchen;
  • kitchen vinyl - soft and lightweight material that can withstand washing, does not absorb odors, has either a neutral color or themed, suitable for the kitchen;
  • Rigid Vinyl - hot embossed wallpapers are the strongest and most durable, ready to be used everywhere from the kitchen to the bedroom.

Despite the fact that all these wallpapers are vinyl, their production technologies can differ dramatically. As a result, the practical characteristics of different types of vinyl are different.

Foamed vinyl wallpapers are considered the simplest and least functional. This coating is easily deformed and damaged. The moisture resistance of such wallpapers is at a low level, their most important advantage is the cost.

Glass apron protects the wallpaper from grease

Kitchen vinyl is already a better material, it is given moisture-resistant qualities by special reagents that fix the foam material during the production process. The texture of these wallpapers is also very delicate, but already ready to endure rubbing with a rag or sponge.

Hard vinyl is the most expensive and high quality, its characteristics can be called exceptional. It is easy to use and extremely wear-resistant, therefore, after gluing it once, you can admire it for a very long time.

Among all these groups, compact vinyl wallpapers stand out, which are both good in quality and affordable.

Compact vinyl

The vinyl material, which is smooth and extremely dense to the touch, is called compact vinyl. It is created by heating and pressing PVC. Embossing is applied in several stages, therefore, despite the thinness of the wallpaper, the relief is clearly visible. Next comes the staining process, which also occurs several times.

The first successful colors of compact vinyl can be considered ornaments for classic natural materials: brick, stone, plaster, and later leather. Such wallpapers fit into the interior easily and naturally, they fit in terms of graphics and functionality. For many years, brickwork wallpaper was a bestseller, but now the hype has subsided.

Now more colors have been invented for compact vinyl, classic patterns have been applied: flowers, monograms, stripes. It is easy to choose wallpaper from compact vinyl for the bedroom, living room, kitchen. In addition, the cost of this type of finishing material is not as high as, for example, hot stamping.

If we talk about all the advantages of these vinyl wallpapers, then we can come to the following:

  • low price - compared to other high-quality wallpapers;
  • the presence of choice, there are options for different rooms: from the bedroom to the kitchen;
  • ease of gluing, due to the density and non-ductility of the material;
  • good strength characteristics, resistance to mechanical damage;
  • durability of the pattern, no fading from sunlight;
  • moisture resistance, the ability to tolerate wet cleaning with a brush;
  • service life, minimum 10 years, maximum unknown.

The disadvantages of wallpaper include the possibility of releasing chemical fumes into the environment of the room and the inability to pass air through itself. Vapors will not cause serious harm to a person, but it is better to refrain from sticking this type of wallpaper in a nursery, so to speak, to play it safe. Lack of breathability in a humid environment can lead to mold and mildew growth.

You can admire the compact vinyl in any hardware store. Usually they are 53 centimeters in size and occupy several racks. Explore the colors of the wallpaper, choose according to your taste.

By choosing vinyl wallpaper for the kitchen, you will definitely not be mistaken: in terms of price / quality ratio, this is by far the best option. The use of advanced techniques and innovative components in the production of vinyl wallpaper allows you to create finishing materials that are highly durable, reliable, wear-resistant and durable. Thanks to the protective layer of polyvinyl chloride, such wallpapers are not afraid of sunlight, moisture, mechanical stress and pollution. And the ever-expanding range of wall vinyl, including the imitation of colors and textures of natural materials, will allow you to implement the most daring design ideas in the interior of the kitchen.

Features of vinyl wallpaper

Vinyl wallpapers consist of two layers: a dense paper, fabric or non-woven backing and a protective top layer made of polyvinyl chloride film, thanks to which the wallpaper acquires increased strength and wear resistance. When choosing vinyl for the kitchen, you should definitely pay attention to the treatment of wallpaper with special impregnations that prevent the formation of fungi and mold.

Thanks to the protective layer of polyvinyl chloride, such wallpapers are not afraid of sunlight, moisture, mechanical stress and pollution.

All the variety of vinyl wallpapers on the market can be divided into two large groups: foamed vinyl and hot embossed vinyl wallpapers. A special technology for processing the top vinyl layer allows you to imitate almost all types of surfaces and textures, and also gives the wallpaper a sculptural relief. Available as plain vinyl wallpaper, and with a pattern: both of them are highly decorative and perfectly hide small irregularities and wall defects.

Combined vinyl wallpaper in a retro style is suitable for decorating a kitchen in a rustic or Provence style.

The quality of vinyl wallpaper depends on the thickness of the vinyl film. Branded "vinyl" is durable, non-staining, does not fade in the sun, is not afraid of moisture, tolerates wet cleaning and even brushing with detergents. This type of wall decoration, without loss of decorativeness and performance, can last up to 10 years or more! The only significant drawback of vinyl wallpaper is airtightness. However, a number of leading manufacturers of finishing materials have already introduced innovative vinyl wallpapers with micropores on the market, which allow the walls to "breathe": allowing condensate to evaporate from under the coating, they simultaneously prevent moisture from penetrating under the wallpaper.

Choosing vinyl wallpaper for the kitchen

Structural wallpaper based on foamed vinyl

Foamed vinyl has a rough surface, it is soft to the touch, so it is pleasant to touch. Foamed vinyl wallpapers are made by applying a vinyl mass to a paper or non-woven base, followed by heat treatment, during which the vinyl foams, acquiring a texture. Such wallpapers perfectly mask irregularities and various surface imperfections, and also do not stretch. The disadvantage of foamed wallpaper is its low strength, which does not allow us to call them an ideal option for finishing the kitchen.

Vinyl wallpaper for painting

They will be an excellent solution for lovers of frequent changes of scenery. Such wallpapers can be repeatedly repainted in any color. Are issued either white, or already color, completely ready to use. Using special staining methods, you can decorate the walls in the kitchen in a very original way. For example, paint can be applied not to the front side, but to the inner surface of the non-woven layer: in this case, the material will be saturated through, creating a background, and the embossed vinyl areas will remain intact. This technique allows you to imitate wall decoration with multi-colored cements using the “sgraffito” technique (translated from Italian “scratched”). Another popular way is to apply highly diluted paint on the front side, and then wipe it off with a soft cloth: the background will remain bright, and the relief will acquire lighter shades.

To create a completely unique interior, you can use vinyl wallpaper for painting.

Compact vinyl

This is the so-called hot stamping flat vinyl wallpaper, which is an imitation of various materials: textured plaster, stone, textiles. Compact vinyl is resistant to washing and hard brushing. Durable material has a pleasant texture and a wide range of colors for a stylish and harmonious kitchen decor.

Kitchen vinyl with a gastronomic print does not seem to lose its relevance and popularity for a long time to come.

kitchen vinyl

Thick or kitchen vinyl is a super washable wallpaper designed specifically for kitchens and bathrooms. Thanks to rubberized vinyl, this type of wallpaper has high moisture resistance and dirt-repellent properties. You can even glue such wallpapers over the kitchen worktop or in the bathroom instead of ceramic tiles. However, due to its thickness, kitchen vinyl looks a bit rough. Thematic drawings with gastronomic motifs are not particularly inspiring either.

Wall vinyl can imitate the colors and textures of natural materials, and pastel colors make it even more attractive.

silkscreen

Silkscreen or satin wallpaper is a type of hot stamped flat vinyl wallpaper. Vinylized paper is used as a base, which is dyed in a special way, and then subjected to heat treatment and strong embossing. Often you can find information that natural silk threads are used in the silk-screen printing process, however, this is not true. The silk effect is achieved exclusively by a special way of processing the vinyl coating. Due to the lack of volumetric relief, it is desirable to use flat vinyl wallpaper on carefully prepared even surfaces.

Hard vinyl wallpaper for the kitchen will amaze with its durability and practicality for years to come.

Hard vinyl wallpaper

They are made from evaporated vinyl that has undergone heat treatment, which allows you to remove harmful substances and components from the material, such as formaldehyde resins. Such wallpapers do not cause allergic reactions and are considered a finishing material that is safe for health. Solid vinyl wallpapers do not stretch or swell, they do not fade in the sun, they are resistant to abrasion and mechanical stress, they can be washed with detergents and cleaners. As a basis in such wallpaper, a special three-layer paper acts, which ensures the unhindered removal of excess moisture from the walls. Hard vinyl imitates absolutely any coating with impeccable accuracy: textured plasters, stone, paint, textiles. A well-balanced selection of the pattern makes the joint between the canvases invisible even from a very close distance.

Many today choose vinyl wallpaper for the optimal price-quality ratio of this finishing material.

The kitchen is a rather "capricious" room in terms of repair. There is always high humidity and high temperature, drops of fat and splashes of water fly from the stove. At the same time, it is very important to maintain perfect cleanliness in the kitchen. Let's add to this that the kitchen should be not only practical, but also aesthetic, because any member of the family spends a lot of time here. How to fulfill all these requirements when choosing a wall covering? There is only one way out - to abandon paper wallpapers and replace them with vinyl ones.

Features of vinyl wallpaper

Vinyl wallpapers have a number of features that make them stand out from the rest of the wall coverings and make them a great solution for the kitchen.

  1. Vinyl wallpaper consists of two main components: interlining (in cheaper versions it is replaced with paper) and polyvinyl chloride. In addition, modern production has stepped forward and some manufacturers have begun to include antifungal components in their products.
  2. The structure of such wallpapers is very dense (especially in comparison with the paper version). This feature greatly simplifies the repair process.
  3. Vinyl wallpaper will not fade in the sun! For many years they are able to retain their original color.
  4. They are suitable for use in almost all rooms. Vinyl wall coverings will withstand use not only in the kitchen, but also in the bathroom.
  5. A wide range of kitchen vinyl wall coverings allows you to choose colors and textures for every taste.
  6. In any case, such wallpaper in the kitchen looks much more comfortable and homely than the same tile.

Variations of vinyl wallpaper

  1. Vinyl wallpaper for painting. This option is a great solution for those who like to change the situation often and make cosmetic repairs. It is very convenient that they can be repainted an unlimited number of times. Wallpapers for painting are available either white, ready for primary painting, or colored.
  2. Compact vinyl. This is a flat vinyl wallpaper, made in a special way using hot stamping. They imitate all possible textures, for example, natural stone, plaster, fabric. Compact vinyl can not only be washed with water, but also cleaned with a stiff brush.
  3. Kitchen vinyl. The most dense type of wallpaper that will suit any kitchen. This density is achieved through the use of a rubberized layer. Due to its thickness, kitchen vinyl looks a little rough, but it can withstand absolutely any operating conditions.
  4. Silkscreen. For the production of such wallpapers, dyed vinylized paper is used, which has been subjected to certain heat treatment and embossing. Thanks to this processing, a silk effect is created. However, such wallpapers are best used away from the most "dangerous" places in the kitchen.
  5. Hard vinyl wallpaper. This version of the wall covering is produced by evaporating vinyl. This allows you to remove all harmful components from the material. The safest option for health among all types of vinyl coverings. Such wallpapers have all the advantages of the variations listed above. The only downside to hard vinyl is its high cost.

Disadvantages of vinyl

Along with a lot of advantages, vinyl also has some disadvantages. Since this material belongs to synthetic polymers, it is capable of releasing some unhealthy substances, in particular formaldehyde. This is why vinyl wall coverings are not the best option for a child's room. However, when it comes to the kitchen, then there will be no problems. The main thing is to look for a note on the packaging about compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements.

Another point that you need to pay attention to when choosing vinyl wall coverings is the presence of special micropores in them. If there are no such micropores on the wallpaper, then there will be a poor breathability effect and, as a result, mold and fungus on the walls under the wallpaper.

Choice of colors

From a wide range of vinyl wall coverings, even the most sophisticated person can run their eyes. However, you should not immediately take the most beautiful, in your opinion, option. There are a number of tips to help create a harmonious atmosphere in the kitchen:

  1. A large drawing will visually reduce the size of the kitchen. If you are making repairs in a small kitchen (up to 7 m2), immediately put the wallpaper with large flowers, geometric patterns and animals aside. Small drawings, on the contrary, will make the room much more spacious and, accordingly, cozy.
  2. The geometric pattern on kitchen vinyl wallpaper will always be relevant. In particular, one of the most successful options for this room is intersecting stripes that resemble a Scottish kilt.
  3. Depending on what effect you want to achieve - to raise the ceilings or to expand the walls, use a pattern with a vertical or horizontal pattern.
  4. If you do not want to change the size of the room, give preference to diagonal patterns, they will give your kitchen dynamics.
  5. Remember that textured vinyl wallpapers always look more stylish and original than ordinary smooth ones.

As for colors, designers advise not to use the following options. Dark wallpaper will reduce the size of the kitchen and put pressure on you. Cold shades of colors will make your kitchen dull and even featureless, especially when it comes to large rooms. Soft, warm, pastel colors are the best solution for kitchen vinyl wallpaper.

Before going to the store

When you have definitely decided to opt for vinyl wall covering and have even decided which option you like, do not rush to the store. Remember the simple rules for buying wallpaper. Sometimes in a hurry these banal things are simply forgotten.

Check every roll you buy carefully. Each of them must have the same batch number, the same article, and outwardly they should not differ in shades even slightly. Carefully inspect the packaging of each roll. It shouldn't have any damage. Don't forget to check the instructions as well.

If you find a marriage or mismatch at home, when the packaging is already slightly damaged, you will not be able to return the product to the store. You will have to spend again on the missing rolls. In any case, it is always safer to buy wall coverings in trusted places.

Gluing rules

The process of gluing a vinyl wall covering is practically the same as gluing any other option. However, it does have some differences. Let's look at the process of sticking vinyl wallpaper in the kitchen.

The first thing you need to do is carefully prepare the surface on which you plan to glue the vinyl wallpaper. How well and carefully you do the preparation will depend on the life of your wallpaper and its appearance.

Most types of vinyl wallpaper allow small defects on the wall, but if the surface is still very uneven, it will have to be leveled and the defects corrected with putty. Please note that silkscreen printing is a rather whimsical type of vinyl. It requires an absolutely flat wall without the slightest flaw. Otherwise, delicate silk-screen printing will lose its appearance. Sometimes, under this type of wall covering, it makes sense to tighten the wall with drywall.

An obligatory stage of preparation is the primer of the walls. The primer solution will create an adhesion effect and strengthen the wall surface. Never neglect this process. In addition, it is important to remember that the primer solution is applied only to clean walls.

The completion of the preparatory stage is, directly, the preparation of materials. Cut the wallpaper into suitable strips in advance and prepare the glue. After that, you can start sticking vinyl wallpaper on the walls of the kitchen.

Now let's look at the features of sticking vinyl wallpaper that distinguish them from paper:

  1. Vinyl wallpapers are always glued end-to-end. Do not overlap one sheet with another.
  2. Some masters apply only one layer of glue. Someone coats the wall with glue, someone a sheet of wallpaper. For maximum effectiveness, it is recommended to apply glue to both the sheets and the wall.
  3. No matter how flexible vinyl sheets seem to you, you should not stretch them.
  4. When you level the sheets, removing excess air from under them, most likely you will not be able to avoid getting glue on the front of the adjacent sheet. There is no need to be afraid of this, but there is no need to delay either. Remove the adhesive quickly and gently with a clean piece of cloth. If you don't do this quickly enough, the glue will dry out and the wallpaper area will look faded even after painting.
  5. While the glue under the wallpaper dries, do not allow drafts to enter the room. Do not open windows and vents. Close all doors tightly.

Immediately I would like to touch upon the issue of removing vinyl wallpaper, because even the highest quality option will someday become outdated and require replacement. You need to remove vinyl wallpaper from the kitchen wall in two stages: first, the vinyl layer is removed, and then the paper (or non-woven) layer.

To remove the vinyl layer, you can use all sorts of options. The most effective way to cope with the task will help a drill with a nozzle in the form of a metal brush. If you don't have a drill, no problem. Use a simple metal brush, needle roller, knife or spatula. In addition, in the hardware store you can buy a special tool "wallpaper tiger". The bottom layer is removed in the same way as ordinary wallpaper, by wetting with water and working with a spatula.

An expanding range of wallpapers, including canvases imitating natural colors, allows you to use vinyl wallpaper as a finishing material in a modern kitchen design according to design ideas.

Vinyl canvases always surpass other types of wallpaper in their aesthetics, functionality and beauty.

Benefits of Vinyl

Wallpaper consists of vinyl from a substrate (can be fabric, paper, non-woven) and a protective film of polyvinyl chloride. This composition makes the wallpaper durable and strong. When choosing vinyl wallpaper for the kitchen, you need to carefully study the impregnation of the treatment composition in order to prevent the growth of mold and fungi on the walls.

The special composition of the protective layer makes the wallpaper resistant to direct sunlight, mechanical damage, humidity, dust.
A variety of vinyl wallpapers allows you to classify them into:

- foamed vinyl sheets;
- hot stamping vinyl.

The peculiarity of the outer coating of the material makes it possible to imitate various types of surfaces, giving the canvases a relief texture. Vinyl wallpapers are plain and patterned. They differ in the presence of decorative elements that allow you to hide the unevenness of the walls.

You can decorate the kitchen in Provence and rustic styles using retro vinyl wallpaper. The quality of the material depends on the thickness of the base. The originality of vinyl makes the canvas durable, moisture resistant, not easily soiled, does not fade, easily tolerates dry and wet cleaning with a brush from dirt.

Vinyl wallpaper, without losing its decorative effect and performance characteristics, can last more than 10 years. A minor drawback is their poor air permeability.

A novelty on the market of materials for wall decoration is vinyl-based wallpaper with micropores, enabling the canvases to “breathe” freely due to the evaporation of condensate. In addition, micropores protect the wallpaper from excess moisture.

The original design of patterns on wallpaper canvases allows you to create a unique interior in the kitchen at no extra cost.

Sheets with foamed vinyl backing

Foaming of vinyl is determined by the roughness of the surface. It is easily recognizable by its softness when touched. The manufacturing technology of foamed vinyl coatings is carried out by applying a universal heat-treated vinyl mass on a non-woven or paper base. At further stages of the technological process, the vinyl material is foamed, acquiring a special texture.

Vinyl wallpaper is rational to use when it is necessary to hide the unevenness of the walls. Their only drawback is the inextensibility of the canvases. It is because of this that they cannot be attributed to the ideal material for decorating kitchen walls.

Advice: When choosing vinyl-based structural wallpapers, consider the fact that they perfectly hide the curvature and defects of the walls.

Paintable vinyl wallpaper

You can decorate the kitchen using vinyl multi-colored patterned wallpaper as decoration.

Types of wall vinyl are constantly expanding and improving, which allows you to use it in the interior design of any kitchen.

The uniqueness of the quality and the cost of the material for wall decoration make it possible to use vinyl wallpaper for pasting the kitchen much more often than other wall coverings.

In addition to the fact that vinyl-based wallpaper is practical, durable, elegant, they are considered an ideal canvas for designing kitchen walls in new buildings.

Since wallpaper is a very popular finishing material used in apartments during repairs, it is recommended to study and master the stages of pasting walls from photos on the network or seek the advice of specialists.

Despite the fact that all wallpaper sheets are characterized by the same technological feature of gluing, do not be too lazy to remove old ones from the walls before gluing new wallpapers, otherwise the vinyl material will spoil the original design, not making the kitchen beautiful.

The choice of wallpaper is a very important decision in the process of any renovation. Someone likes to glue "for centuries" and chooses materials that can maintain a spectacular look for 8-10 years, someone, on the contrary, prefers to change the look of the walls every 2-3 years.

The necessary price-quality ratio, interesting color and all kinds of patterns, moisture resistance, the ability to survive scratches, bumps and children's drawings - the ideal wallpaper must meet all these qualities. For this reason, representatives of various segments of the population are increasingly choosing vinyl wallpaper for walls.

This type of wallpaper has a beautiful, rich pattern.

The main advantages of vinyl wallpaper

Vinyl wallpaper is a special type of wall covering in the form of rolls with a base of cheap paper or more expensive and prestigious interlining. Above - a layer of polyvinyl chloride (popularly - vinyl) of different thicknesses, structures and volumes.

In the huge mass of vinyl wall coverings, there are many subspecies, but they all have common advantages, thanks to which they are loved by buyers.

  • Strength.
    Unlike inexpensive and popular paper wallpapers, vinyl coating has 2 layers: paper / interlining + vinyl film, so they are much stronger. It is almost impossible to tear a piece of such a roll, for example, when gluing.
  • Durability.
    Wallpapers with a vinyl layer are champions in wear resistance: such a coating can stay on the walls for up to 10 years, retaining the original color and freshness of colors even with wet cleaning. The only problem is that bright vinyl patterns can simply get boring.
  • Moisture resistance.
    Depending on the type of vinyl wallpaper in the interior, they can be wiped with a wet cloth, fully washed and even rubbed with a brush or sponge. You just need to choose the necessary marking - and the walls will be able to survive the cleaning of any intensity.
  • Versatility.
    Perhaps the main advantage of this coating is that vinyl wallpaper in the interior can be matched to any style. The vinyl layer is able to imitate velvet, fabric, textured plaster, stone, brick, bamboo, wood and other materials. In addition, the choice of colors and all kinds of patterns on vinyl is simply amazing - such a wealth of colors cannot be found among paper, non-woven or textile wallpapers.

This allows you to choose a two-layer wall covering for houses and apartments decorated in any style: strict classics, elegant retro, cozy country, laconic high-tech, industrial loft and others.

Wallpaper with a washable layer can be used for pasting the bathroom

Disadvantages of vinyl wallpaper

With all its advantages, PVC building materials have a number of disadvantages, which, nevertheless, can always be corrected.

  • Toxicity.
    Although there have already been a lot of various “test purchases” and studies on the dangers of PVC, the debate about whether vinyl wallpaper is harmful does not subside.
    Indeed, low-quality chemical material, when combined with wallpaper glue, can emit formaldehyde vapors for up to 4 years, but only cheap wallpaper of dubious quality is guilty of this. If you choose the “clothes” for your walls correctly and scrupulously, this trouble can be avoided.
  • Airtight.
    Another complaint about trendy wallpapers is the inability to let air through. Heavy vinyl covers the wall very tightly, leaving it no room to breathe, but it creates a humid environment - a convenient place for the growth of fungi and harmful microorganisms. It is also possible to solve such a problem if you choose non-woven vinyl wallpaper - modern material, unlike paper, passes air much more freely.
  • Problem repair.
    In the absence of experience in gluing heavy two-layer wallpaper, noticeable difficulties may arise. So, paper-based vinyl wallpaper can shrink when dried, resulting in noticeable gaps between the pasted strips. Vinyl must be glued strictly end-to-end (by no means overlapped!), which does not always work out perfectly, especially with a complex pattern on the canvas and uneven walls.
    The solution is in non-woven vinyl wallpaper. Such canvases weigh less, it is more convenient to hold them in your hands during repairs, and the glue needs to be smeared on the wall, and not on the roll, which also facilitates the workflow.
  • Price.
    The high cost of vinyl rolls is one of the reasons why people choose the more affordable paper rolls. However, the high price tag is successfully compensated for by a long service life and resistance to mechanical stress, dirt and wet cleaning.

Air tightness is a minus of this type of wallpaper. Moisture resistance is a plus.

Varieties of vinyl wallpaper

On the net you can find many different classifications of vinyl canvas, but there are only 5 main types of such wallpaper.

Structural with a layer of foamed vinyl

Such a coating has a voluminous loose structure of various colors and patterns, often with sparkles, which are interspersed in the top layer of the lush canvas.

This variety is ideal for rooms with uneven walls. If there are cracks, bulges and small pits on the surface, the volumetric coating will smooth out all the bumps and create an interesting play of light on the foam surface. Such vinyl is also used for pasting surfaces made of wood, plywood, fiberboard. In addition, fashionable vinyl wallpaper for painting is also a foamed canvas.

It is necessary to paint vinyl wallpaper with caution, first of all, be sure to check with a specialist in the store if this type is suitable for painting. For structural vinyl wallpaper for painting, water-based paint and a roller are usually advised, before the process - a primer in two layers. The color of the walls can be changed as often as you like until the foam texture starts to smooth out on the wallpaper.

Vinyl wallpaper hot stamping. This group distinguishes between heavy and compact vinyl.

Heavy vinyl is the densest canvas of interesting deep colors and patterns. Such wallpapers hide the unevenness of the walls well, but they are quite difficult to glue, and a thick two-layer coating hardly lets air through and can be the cause of fungus on the walls.

Compact vinyl is just a dream for designers: it is the rolls with this canvas that are made as an imitation of various surfaces: textiles, wood, brick, they are very durable, withstand almost any mechanical impact and retain their spectacular appearance for many years.

Sometimes hot embossed wallpaper refers to vinyl with chemical embossing. Such a canvas is particularly resistant to ultraviolet radiation, practically does not fade in direct sunlight and is in excellent contact with moisture without damage.

Wallpaper of this type consists, in fact, of three layers

Silkscreen - the most beautiful type of vinyl

Such vinyl wallpapers are always on a paper basis, silk threads are woven into the top layer, which create a unique noble effect. "Silk" wallpaper can be smooth and embossed, very rich in color, on the walls it looks invariably luxurious and expensive. These wallpapers are very durable, resistant to water and abrasion, can retain their bright color and shine for up to 8-10 years. Best of all, such a coating looks on the walls in the corridors, both narrow and wide, bedrooms and large living rooms.

Washable vinyl wallpaper (or polyplene)

Washable flooring is a great way to decorate walls in a kitchen, bathroom or nursery where regular cleaning is required or where walls come into frequent contact with liquid. The wallpaper can have a smooth and foamed surface, several layers are applied on top of the base: polyvinyl chloride, plasticizers, stabilizers, pigments and various other additives.

Hard, or vaporized, vinyl

This variety is gaining more and more popularity today - it is such wallpaper vinyl that is recognized as hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. The fabric is based on three layers of paper and evaporated polyvinyl chloride, from which all harmful substances that can further evaporate are removed.

Wallpaper based on a hard vinyl layer has a quality certificate of the European Independent Environmental Assessment, which means that they can be safely used to renovate children's bedrooms and one-room apartments in which babies live.

Wallpaper with a layer of PVC often have very bright, cheerful shades.

How to choose vinyl wallpaper?

When choosing materials for repairs, it is often difficult for us to decide which vinyl wallpaper is better. First you need to decide where exactly you want to make spectacular walls from a fashionable coating.

For the bathroom and kitchen, the choice is unequivocal - it is polyplen. Washable vinyl wallpapers are best chosen by the marking icon, usually a marine symbol: one wave - the canvas is moisture resistant, can be wiped with a damp cloth; two and three are washable; wave and comb - vinyl is washed with a brush (sponge).

If you like plain walls, plan to change the color of the wallpaper as often as possible, or are renovating a nursery where a little artist lives, it is better to buy foam relief rolls for painting.

The covering for bedrooms should be chosen "breathable", and this is vinyl wallpaper on non-woven fabric. The paper base does not allow air to pass through, so silk-screen printing and heavy vinyl are best left for corridors and halls.

Important:

The safest vinyl wallpaper on non-woven is a perforated canvas, and small holes must be “pierced” through, in both layers. Finding them is quite easy - just look at the rolls you like in the store to the light - micropores are very clearly visible.

To decide which vinyl wallpaper is better, you can also navigate by smell. Be sure to smell the chosen canvas - in no case should the roll smell like acetone. Another dangerous signal is if the top layer is oily to the touch. Proper vinyl should be dry, like textured vinyl.

When planning repairs, many people ask themselves one more question - is it better to choose non-woven or vinyl wallpaper for the interior? Each of these varieties has its own advantages: vinyl is very durable, has a wide selection of colors and patterns, and is easy to clean. But interlining is also durable, allows the walls to breathe, is used for painting - up to 12 layers of paint can be applied to the surface pasted over with it. Non-woven wallpaper is also very easy to glue: the solution needs to be applied only to the wall, air bubbles do not form under the light canvas. After drying, the wallpaper does not change shape, so they are recommended for repairs in "freshly built" houses, which usually shrink. The choice of whether to purchase vinyl or non-woven wallpaper for renovation also depends on the type of room. Interlining does not tolerate moisture well, so smooth vinyl should be preferred in the bathroom or in the kitchen.

Vinyl wallpaper is a huge selection of wall coverings of different structure, color and even composition. Buying the perfect decoration for each of the rooms in your home is not difficult, you just have to carefully study the features of each type of vinyl sheet and choose the right one.
